    Which Road to Take??

I am one of those people who tend to think that whatever they'll end up having you do on a trading desk, or any other institutional job for that matter, probably won't help you as much as you think if your plan is to eventually trade your own account and be your own boss. Implementing a...

    Anyone have a T1 line?

I currently have a T1 and it costs me $325 per month, which I thought was a great deal when I did it 2 years ago. Obviously I love it because its super fast and rock solid. It has never gone out on me once since I've had it (at least not that I've noticed). But I think if I were to move...

    Trading System up on eBay

Sorry for not responding sooner...I sort of lost track of this thread after the first knuckle head chirped in with his immature comments. Its funny, you can almost always tell the winning traders from the losing traders, just by how much pent up anger they seem to be harboring. At any rate...

Is the IB API still tied to the GUI

According to their website, it looks like you can bypass the GUI and use their CTCI/FIX interface via internet if you commit to a $100 commission minimum. The only catch iis that I don't think that interface supports any of IB's trade allocation features (i.e. you're a CTA) or order management...

To what extent do you use indicators?

The other thing you have to ask yourself is: "are you being too hard on yourself?" I think most new traders probably are. Everyone wants to attack trading as though they have to have a significant edge, like 70...80...90 percent. You have to realize that thats a HUGE edge, that most...

To what extent do you use indicators?

I think you probabably misunderstood what I was saying. Either way, it doesn't really matter because it looks like we killed this thread.

To what extent do you use indicators?

You are absolutely correct. Technically speaking, the "law of averages" is really just a lay term for a concept supported by the "law of large numbers." Likewise the "law of distribution" typically refers to some sort of probability distribution function (of which there are many). Also...

To what extent do you use indicators?

This whole argument reminds me of a conversation I had several years back with a buddy of mine who, at the time, was a pit boss in a craps pit at one of the casinos just off the Vegas strip. I asked him if his casino had any standard operating policy to deal with a player, or an entire table...

Looking for a Raderscreen type program

Take a look at NeoTicker. They're not bad for real time scanning but I find it works best on a dedicated machine (depending on how many symbols you're actually trying to keep track of in realtime). http://www.tickquest.com/product/ If you don't need realtime scanning, but just want to...

To what extent do you use indicators?

One of the best traders I ever met used to always say that "trading models are to believed, but never trusted." That little saying has helped me so much over the years that I find myself mumbling it in my head everytime I'm about to pull the trigger. The thing you have to remember is that...

    Question on over-night margin requirements

So let me get this straight.....not only do you HAVE TO HAVE the absolute lowest margins available so that you can leverage yourself to the max.....but then you want to use that leverage to enter positions outside normal market hours. Thats just brilliant. And by the way, if you want to...

    "Scaling out" is inferior behavior

Well said. Now imagine if you had an approach that allowed you to increase your position size on the z-trades as they progressed, so that you were weighted more heavily in them.

    "Scaling out" is inferior behavior

Yah, and that may happen on several trades in a row and probably get very frustrating.... but who cares... the one or two times an hour (or day..or..week..or whatever time frame you're trading in) you are able to catch a decent run and really build a position up you'll make 10 times that amount.

    "Scaling out" is inferior behavior

Reading all these posts reminds me of when I was first learning to play craps. After three days of playing as "smart" as possible, one of the dealers finally pulled me aside and asked, "so do you want to learn how to make some real money in this game or do you just want to nickel and dime it...
