As far as I understand it, tariffs are supposed to work when you import products; the US is a net producer. Unless Trump convinces *foreign* countries to impose tariffs, I don't see how the US unilaterally putting a tariff on foreign oil would help. He would need to set a minimum price, i.e...

IMHO, it would be better to tax foreign oil, or even subsidize domestic production, to a point where US oil producers don't go bust. Otherwise they're just making all this effort to help Russia, Saudi Arabia and Venezuela... :( But what would I know?
