Why not always invest in Deep In The Money / Delta 1 Options?

Your intrinsic value is protected from nothing. You have exposed yourself to, too much delta. Think about it. If you bough 1 DITM call for $9, and 1 ATM call for $1, and the underlying tanks by $9. The $9 DITM call drops like a brick off the empire. The ATM call still drops, but more like a...

Why not always invest in Deep In The Money / Delta 1 Options?

You're leaving yourself no protection. With ATM, OTM or just ITM notice how much smaller the delta is. So while the underlying, of your very DITM, is falling $1 for $1, your ATM is losing at most .50 on the $1. And if your underlying ascends, very quickly your delta ascends. Options are...

    Canada officially enters recession

When Norway discovered oil in the mid 60's, they created Statoil to make sure they could gouge their share and taxed heavily all other comers. They started a fund, similar to the Heritage fund in Alberta, except they knew enough to keep collecting taxes from everyone at the same time. Alberta...

    Canada officially enters recession

Change in government will help. Cutting taxes does nothing for the overall economy. We need stimulus, just like the U.S. did or take a page from Norway's game plan. They're sitting with $900 billion in excess, not run a deficit since the late 60's, and still have all the very generous social...

Why not always invest in Deep In The Money / Delta 1 Options?

Buy the stock, sell covered calls, alot safer. Even if your stock plummets, you can still sell covered calls, collect the dividend and sleep easier.

Three charts that hint market rout isn’t over

My guess is next week for crazy gyrations. At 9:58 pm, here are some overseas numbers. Friday will probably be ok, maybe grab some protective puts.

    Vol summaries

I pulled this chart off of IB, which is great for the U.S. markets, and though IB service the TMX (options in Canada) there is no identical summary for us. The vol comparisons make mining for desirable trades so much more efficient. I'm with RBC Direct Investing, and they don't have anything...

    The most expensive bad habits

I've been trading 10 years, 3 full-time, and still make mistakes. I study my mistakes, and hit the books to help raise the bar. I'll be reading a book this weekend on put strategies by Thomsett. After this past week, I should have had a huge profit, but only ended up with tiny money. Got to...

    Vega trading

I guess I should mention, I'm talking from the buy side. I buy front month long straddles, just before a news event such as earnings. I have no desire to hang on, especially if I'm wrong. On this strategy I buy one day, and gone the next. If I play vol before ER, then it's an OTM long strangle...

    Vega trading

Unless you're trading 100 contracts or more, the difference is too small to be concerned about (the vol being 15.553% compared to the lesser 15.466%). Maybe consider looking into what the 52wk high and low iv is, and this way you'll have a better idea if they are cheap or expensive. I would...

    Vega trading

Unless I'm reading wrong, you bought a straddle, not strangle. The actual strangle looks ok. You get a better b/a spread at 35, and a tighter b/a ask at 33. Unless you know something is going to move the underlier, it seems like a lot of money to tie up for 60 days. Just my humble opinion, but...

How do full-time traders handle awkward situations when they reveal they trade for a living?

When I'm asked; "what do you do for a living?" I reply, "equities trader", and most times that glazed over look appears. Thinking of taking some night school courses to fill the social void trading creates, otherwise can't think of anything else I'd rather do. 10 years trading, last 3 full...

    Limit or Market Orders??

I'm so obsessed with slippage, that "limit" orders are a must. Right up to March of this year, when my 2 year profit run came to an abrupt end, I was trading using "absolute" instead of "percentage" and was giving away so much slippage. Got to keep in control with "limit". Cheers!

    is it bad to chase?

Watch the rsi rise above, say 80, for the overbought signal and consider buying some puts. Grab some profit on the decline.
