    Router or Firewall Program?

I'm wondering what you guys do for internet protection, use a router, like Linksys, that masks your IP address or use a firewall program, like Norton? I'm using Norton, but have been told the router route :) is better, more secure, and causes less program conflicts. Any thoughts? Thanks.

    Upgrading Win ME to XP

Back up all the data you want to hold on to. Have the program disks, cd's, etc. you'll need. Do a complete install (as mentioned above) including having the install program reformat your hd (this will remove MFT fragments which you won't be able to get rid of otherwise w/o using Partition...

    Buffett on Derivatives

Buffet uses TONS of derivatives. Look at a Berkshire 10Q. And he says in his letter he uses derivaties. I think he's talking about the abuses by executives and the more exotic, hard to analyze, unsecured derivatives.

    Buffett's Letter -- Sneak Peek

Warren is not talking about what we generally know as derivatives. He's talking about things like total return swaps that require no margin, executive running up earnings and stock price to increase the value of options given as compensation, and strange derivatives that are so hard to value...

    Spec of New Machine

I know the old Dell Dimensions used non-standard mobo and power supply specs/dimensions--making upgrading to non-Dell components next to impossible.

    Trading can be easy

Come on the guy posted a system. Maybe it works, maybe it doesn't, but take his bluster in stride. You can usually learn something from anybody. So take what you like, disprove the rest, debate, etc., but can't we tone down the attacks a little? I mean to ask someone to post audited financial...

    Trading Software for Beginner

From what I understand--& it could be wrong--you can't really use IB's data feed as source of historical data. So if you're looking for anything more than streaming quotes & charts a few mins long, IB won't work as a data source. For a relative cheap, reliable service w/ charting, I'd go with...

What's the BEST time to trade?

If you are day trading, check your intraday margin requirements and times. E.g. IB's are from 9:30 am to 3:45 EST. If you don't have enough money in your account to cover the overnight margin, you most likely won't be able to execute your trades outside of the intraday window.

    my power went out! :-O

I learned the hard way also. One of TippLite's UPS died after about 7 years. They told me the probable cause was my laser printer. It was out of warantee, but they sold me a new one at below wholesale cost. (About a third what I would have paid in the store or on line.) So I like them A LOT :)

    my power went out! :-O

I would never not have a UPS. It is GREAT PROTECTION for your computer. Dirty power (spikes and dips in voltage which happens frequently) is a major cause of system deaths. And if the power dies, you've got a few minutes to finish up business and power down properly. Do yourself a favor...

    Simple Excel 2002 ?

I'm running Excel 97 and am wondering if MS has increased the number of columns on a spreadsheet in Office XP's Excel 2002? In Excel 97 the right most column on a spreadsheet is IV (that's 255 columns). Has this been changed or is Excel still limited to 255 columns? Thanks a lot!

    War

But how twisted is this. It looks a little LESS likely @ ~2:20 that there will be a war (due to the French announcement at UN), and the market DROPS. I guess all the smart money positioning for a war bump felt they may have jumped the gun a little. The market is definitely a chess match, do...

How Do You Trade #'s Releases?

Don't bother with them. Position myself before the report comes out. Try to catch the move as I see it develop just after the report comes out. Place stops to catch the move. Place stops w/ limits to catch the move and get out. Some other strategy. Thanks!

Add Second Monitor to an Old Dell

My system started acting weird, hanging a lot. So following your advice, here's what I did: 1-Used XP's System Restore and restored my computer to the time just before installation of the new video card. This wiped out all the MSI/nVIDIA files. 2-Powered down and installed the old video...

    Legging in

For just one time only, I'd very much like to post the prices and IV's for an underlying's most liquid strikes. And propose a simple bull call spread, or even a condor to get more strikes involved. And then see how the folks here would leg into the trade and why. Because to be honest, I'm not...

    Legging in

Not offended at all. It's my understanding that conversions and reversals are very short lived and don't really present any kind of opportunity for a home based trader. Maybe I'm wrong?
