    Apple monitor?

I would definitely go with two small over one big. I just bought a 2nd monitor for my pc and I love it. As for what works with what, I just don't know. HTH. :)

    RAID Mirror and or Striping

I'm just a regular person slowly getting more into trading and hoping to make a living at it eventually. As for direct access, I've got three accounts. Interactive Brokers' Trader Workstation, TradeStation's TS6 (not really direct access for futures), thinkorswim's frontend (for options). Sorry...

    RAID Mirror and or Striping

Thanks again guys for the advice. A system builder out here in LA recommended a serverboard system w/ RAID array (stripe & mirror). I talked with a good computer shop (PC Club) and they split on this approach. Your responses have clearly removed any questions from my mind. RAID is too much...

    RAID Mirror and or Striping

So if your PS fries your main hd, it's probably fried your secondary one as well. Have you looked into using DVD for back up? & which tape drives do you like? Thanks. P.S. could I do something where I have the 2nd hd archive the 1st one EOD and then have it dormant at all other times?

    RAID Mirror and or Striping

Is anyone using a RAID array to backup data (mirror) your primary hd or to (stripe) span files across hds for faster access? I've heard the stripe route is a little less stable--so it makes me hestant. However, mirroring seems like a good idea, esp. with a 2nd hd costing ~$100. What's...

    "Warning" for New P4 Buyers

I looked at the dual processor (Xenon) route, and everything just seemed too expensive. For example, those dual PIII and Xenon boards you linked to are ~70% more expensive than single CPU P4 board. I realize a dual PIII will outperform a single P4, but you're also sitting closer to...

    "Warning" for New P4 Buyers

Which cipset did your Intel p4 motherboard have? I've heard the most recent 845PE Intel mobo is VERY good.

    Router or Firewall Program?

If you think you currently have trojans, spyware, etc. in your machine, check out software (free trial) from Moosoft and Lavasoft to scan your computer. As for security software, I do like Norton Personal Firewall--but I'm the person asking about routers, so I'm no expert.

    "Warning" for New P4 Buyers

All I can tell you is that the benchmarks I've seen for HT show it running somewhat slower on most non-multi threaded apps. The difference wasn't great. You could probably find them by doing a search on Intel Hyperthreading Review--or something along those lines. (Of course I read the first...

    "Warning" for New P4 Buyers

Intel chips are cooler than AMDs and people seem to run those okay. I'm pretty sure there a viable ways to physically cool off a P4 if you're worried.

    Router or Firewall Program?

I got a Linksys BEFSR41 ver. 2 Router with 4-Port Switch. Good? BTW, maybe it's in my mind, but I seem to load webpages faster now (and I'm still running Norton Personal Firewall).

    Router or Firewall Program?

You all convinced me. I just picked up a Linksys 4 port router for $80. And another UPS. Thanks.

    "Warning" for New P4 Buyers

Intel is slated to release next quarter a new P4 & chipset w/ an 800mhz FSB and dual channel DDR 400 support. If you can hold off, existing P4 533mhz and 845PE chipset prices should drop by a lot. (And the new stuff will of course offer even more performance.) I mention this b/c I bought a...

    Router or Firewall Program?

BTW, it seems that cable modems are less secure than DSL connections. Would a cable + router + firewall setup be as safe as DSL with the same protection hardware? I'm asking b/c I'm considering a second computer with it's own high speed connection and am leaning towards cable for the second...

    Router or Firewall Program?

If I'm connecting a single computer to my DSL account, then a router's only function would be to mask my IP, correct? I mean there would be no performance difference between going through the router and connecting my single pc directly to the DSL modem. Correct?
