New IB Home Page - Nicely Done

(If you're trading the ES, I'd LOVE to know what you do with maket depth.) But anyway, what do you call this?:

Checking assumptions: Random price chart generator

I can't b/c I don't have your spreadsheet. (I know you offered a copy, but I'm pretty careful about downloading stuff--but I'll probably ask you for one anyway :) .) I feel that people use the term random number rather loosely. A normal distribution is decidedly unrandom. Look at people's...

    FOREX Quotes ?

I've heard that FOREX quotes are not of completed trades but of the lowest ask price. Is this really true (sounds weird to me)? Also, where do you get historical FOREX data from since there is no NASDAQ or OPRA like organization compiling quotes from all the various banks? I know you can get...

Checking assumptions: Random price chart generator

That's great work. BTW, your assumed annual growth rate is obviously what's causing the trend in the data. This makes these numbers rather un-random and really a normal distribution around a trend. Thanks so much for sharing.

Are dual processor machines necessary ?

Of course they won't be. It took *years* for software to be recompiled for from 16 bit to 32 bit x86. And Intel initiated that change. Nonetheless, 64 bit is so obviously better than 32 bit (and by their own roadmap the wave of the future) that Intel has a real dilema on it's hands.

Are dual processor machines necessary ?

Ture, but w/o P4 3 gig's, those P3's would be top of the line and still cost $3K.

    Tradestation or IB

    I don't trade equities, so I really couldn't tell you. Sorry. :(

Are dual processor machines necessary ?

That logic would have eliminated advances past the 800mhz P3.

Are dual processor machines necessary ?

Sure and Sun had them before Intel, but don't try running 32 and 64 bit windows apps on a Sparc Station. Intel's 64 bit Itanium is not really a desktop chip. Too expensive, not (really) compatible with 32 bit x86 code. Requires a major overhaul to get old x86 apps to work.

Are dual processor machines necessary ?

64 bits by AMD has the pontential do some real damage to Intel. Dual channel DRR 400, 800Mhz FSB, HT, blah, blah, blah in comparison to 64 (instead of 32) bits. (When software is properly recompiled or you are working with large datasets.)

    P4 800 MHZ FSB Has Arrived :)

I've got you beat. Dell PII 333 w/ a 66mhz FSB running XP Pro. That's about 1/10th the power of today's machines. And I've got a 486 Compaq laptop running *Win 3.1* just to run Word 6.0 to take notes. :) :) Good equipment doesn't die easy.

    512mb RDRAM or 1024mb DDRAM?

I'm sorry, I don't know the difference between registered and unbuffered ECC, but I can tell you that almost every high-end workstation has ECC disabled in the BIOS. Which makes having ECC memory kind of useless. However, I would defintely get the best memory recommended for your motherboard...

    512mb RDRAM or 1024mb DDRAM?

It really has do with the chipset at this point and time. I would go with the 875 chipset w/ DDR. Rambus memory is being phased out by Intel. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?threadid=16343

    P4 800 MHZ FSB Has Arrived :)

Thanks for the article. I found this statement the most interesting: "What's the bottom-line buying advice? Power desktop PC users who favor Intel-based machines may want to sit tight until June. That's the expected debut date for "Prescott," the revamped P4 chip for which the 875P chipset...

    Tradestation or IB

IB will NOT give you the charting you need, unless you trade w/o charts. TS is fine for more swing/longterm trades. For intraday trading, it's not as good as IB. Fills are slower and commissions are a little more expensive. Eventually, TS will connect directly w/ GLOBEX and ACE but until that...

Are dual processor machines necessary ?

Actually, the fastest Xenons are 3.06 gig w/ 533 Mhz FSBs. And the latest P4's have 512K of L2 cache, so the line between Xenon and P4 seems to blur more and more every day.

Are dual processor machines necessary ?

The price is not doubled. The mobo is a little more expensive, then you need a second cpu which will be few 100 dollars and RAM for it. And you can use lower end cpus at that. For example a dual processor P3 machine will outperform most P4 systems. I don't think it's really worth it either...

    P4 800 MHZ FSB Has Arrived :)

http://www.tomshardware.com/mainboard/20030414/index.html (I actually expected a bigger improvement than the application benchmarks show, but it does seem like the wave of the future--and a good one at that.)

new option cancel fees for IB

Thanks for clearing up the cancelation issue for me. Yeah, generally I will replace to get a better fill. Rarely would I not execute the trade at all. As for the ES O/N bid ask spreads and market depth, they suck. But more than that, because it's so illiquid the prices are just not very...

Are dual processor machines necessary ?

Xenons have more cache and had hyperthreading before the P4 did. There is really no reason, IMO, to have a Xenon machine. You are looking at a much more expensive CPU and motherboard when compared to straight P4 of similar clock and FSB speed. And the Xenons always lag the P4 in terms of clock...
