    Opening Orders - 2008

How does this trade fit in an Opening Order strategy? The stock gapped higher and then went higher.

5.20% CD terms 6mo to 10 years. too good to be true?

The reason that these rate are so high is precisely because they are not easily resellable!! There is no free lunch. There are reports of firms being sued because they did not disclose the liquidity issues with these securities.

Actual quote from a trader in the in a futures pit in the late 1980's He was in the process of furiously bidding up a contract in which he was already substantially long. A relatively new trader went over to sell him a ten-lot on his most recent elevated bid and the the pro turned to him and...

    market crash of 1987

I was a trader in the SPX options pit on the CBOE during that fateful week. A lesser known story about that week took place on Thursday 10/22. A large sell order was sent to the sp 500 DESK at the MERC which wound up being duped. As a result the futures opened down about 60 points. All our...

An unbelievable story about the NASDAQ today:

Some of you guys are being a little harsh on the OP. Doesn't seem like he was trying to scam anybody. Sounds like he has an automated system and needs to fix it up. If your auto-order system is watching the bid/ask and waiting to enter the trade, poor liquidity, bad data, late quotes, etc...

An unbelievable story about the NASDAQ today:

A couple of questions: 1. Did you own the stock before you placed the order? 2. If not, were you trying to enter a short sale? It sounds like you tried to rob the bank, shot yourself in the foot and then expect the bank to pay your medical bills.

    Open Book

Has any one been experiencing problems with Open Book in recent days? A lot of stale quotes at the top of the book that seem to linger for hours. It makes a somewhat dubious tool even more totally worthless. It seems to happen on either the bid or the offer side with equal frequency.

A casino has only a slight edge so...

Every bet on the roulette table has the same casino edge. All payoffs are bases on a "fair" table of 36 numbers. The addition of 1 zero(European) or 2 zeros(American) provides the "edge". Las Vegas - 2.7% London- 5.26%
