What is your best interest rate and where for parking cash?

Check out this website for highest rates for Banks and MMF. It is www.cranedata.us. Surprisingly, banks have higher rates than the MMFs.

What is the difference between Brokers and Futures Commission Merchants?

No. The CFTC doesn't have an equivalent like the FDIC for banks and SIPC for stock brokerages. The good news is that the CFTC requires tons of capitalization for FCMs to stay in business, and the custoner accounts are segregated from the FCMs accounts. REFCO is a recent example of problems at...

    afternoon session vs morning session

Back in the nineties, someone suggested to me that the best trade is to fade the 9:30 AM ET open. Sell if the futures are up and buy back when/if they pullback to the previous day's close. Do the opposite if the futures open down. I never really studied this. Anyone know if this technique...

"One of History's Greatest Financial Crises"

I like the comment New Deal V.2. FDR broke it down into three actions: rescue, relief, and reform. Rescue efforts for the financial institutions are underway, but as the NYT article mentions, the effort is not working. What is the government doing to rescue the consumer/public? Well, the...

Looking for the 2nd direct access broker: I have TradeStation right now

Take a look at thinkorswim. I am considering going back to "investing" and away from trading. I opened a papermoney account, and I like the platform. The commissions are very low as well. No monthlies. Check it out.

What broker do you suggest ?

Go with Global futures. Best customer service around. A human answers the phone within four rings, and emails are answered promptly. The free J-Trader platform is excellent for trading Index futures. I trade the ES and fills are always on the money (limits, stops). It is incredibly fast for...

    Goodbye treasury liquidity

The FED can print as much money as they need; we are no longer on the gold standard. One way to do this is to buy Treasuries. In this case, the FED is "swapping" treasuries for "unpricable" mortgage-backed securities. So, in other words, junk CDO's etc are being transferred from financial...

    putting the rally in perspective

Relief rallies are sharp and quick; so, I agree with the opening statement. If I were fortunate enough to have been long on Tuesday, I would have reached my target and profited. In a bear market, when I enter a trade going against the trend, I keep it in for one day, and close it out EOD, no...

    Best Stock/Stock Options Broker

Thanks for your comments. I think that IB is best for active trading, but not for investing (low volume orders). The monthly fees will kill me. I used to use IB for futures and futures options trading and the commish was decent, but customer service lacked, among other things. I just...

    Swing Trading the ES

I like to use the slow stochastic when entering trades. In an established downtrended market, I enter my shorts when the slow stochastic reaches the 80% level and allow the trade to continue until it reaches the 20% level. I place a protective stop 12 points (because of the volatility) above...

    Best Stock/Stock Options Broker

I am looking for the best stock and stock options broker. Criteria: Decent customer service, lowest commission rates for low-volume investing (100 shares of stock or less per month and about one single stock option per month), functional software for entering orders). I guess I am looking for...

    Selling OTM puts on ES

I TRADE FOR A LIVING AND I CAN'T SELL/BUY ENOUGH CONTRACT TO MAKE THE SPREAD WORTH WHILE. FOR INSTANCE, LET'S LOOK AT TODAY'S BEAR CALL SPREAD FOR ESH8 OPTIONS. THE BEST SPREAD IS ATM. CURRENTLY, 9:30 AM ET, THE ESH8 IS AT 1328. THE C1330 IS AT 23.00 AND THE C1335 IS AT 20.75 FOR A SPREAD OF...

    Selling OTM puts on ES

I have been selling OTM puts on the ES for about three years. When volatility was low, I just sat on the puts until they expired. In 2007, volatility began to increase; so I began [delta} hedging my short puts with short ES futures. In addition, I exited my puts at a predetermined point and...

Which brokers offer reduced margins on futures spreads?

If you trade on the CME, they list the exchange's reduced margins for spreads. Most brokerages follow those or allower HIGHER margin requirements. You can always call the broker and ask.

    GlobalFutures Feedback

I use the J-Trader to trade ES futures. It is the fastest platform I have ever used, including TWS. Executions as well as real-time data are fast. no lock-ups; the only time I have had a problem is when the exchange was down. And you receive a message to boot.

If your broker must help you vs the exchange

You can always call the exchange yourself. I had a commisiions/cost issue with the CME and my broker. So, I contacted the CME, and they took care of it Regarding trading issues, I am certain that if you read all of the agreements you signed, you probably are screwed--as far as trading issues...
