I want to make sure I think about all possible types of publicly traded investment vehicles out there (besides stocks of course). I think they are:
1. REITs
2. MLPs
3. Royalty Trusts
4. Regulated Investment Companies - closed end funds, open end funds, and ETFs.
5. Exchange Traded Notes...
Yes, I noticed that OP, VIX is down today even though market down bigly. It seems to me that means people playing the options game think the end of the downfall might be near, that's all I can figure...
Oh wow Gary, thanks so much. So if the adjusted prices take into account the dividends, I would guess they just assume you reinvest the dividend in the stock as soon as its paid, hat sort of thing?
Thanks!
So, I think maybe the issue is this. It gives actual dividends amounts. If I include those total dividend amounts it is vastly over stating my return because I am calculating my return based on adjusted stock prices, which takes into account stock splits/dividends, etc.
When I divide the...
Thanks Cabin, I follow you. I looked at the link, very nice. But there is something fundamentally flawed with my yahoo finance calculations as my calculations show RVT crushing Russell 2000 not but just a little or a good bit, but absolutely crushing it, like several times over, I think its...
I recently did some calculations, as follows, but I think something has to be wrong.
I was trying to compare long term performance of RVT and SPY using Yahoo Finance.
So SPY goes back to 1993, RVT back further, so I started with the first date SPY was on Yahoo Finance, which is 1/29/93. Its...
So Cabin111, when I go back and compare RVT to Russell 2000 since its inception (or at least as for back as I can see with yahoo finance), RVT destroys it even worse. Like a 943% return for Russell 2000 versus an 8370% return for RVT. But that cannot be right. There has to be something going...
By the way Cabin111, I just ran similar calculations on RGT from its inception (back in 2013) versus SPY, unfortunately SPY trounces it pretty good, like 211% ROI to 113% ROI.
But those RVT numbers... WOW...
Wholly shit Cabin111. Check this out.
I went back and compared SPY to RVT.
I started with SPY, since from what I can tell SPY goes back only to 1993, RVT much further.
So on 1/29/93 SPY had an adjusted close of 25.55. As of Friday it closed at 411.34. Had you held one share during...
I love MLPs and royalty trusts for their fat yields, but I HATE getting those K-1s and/or Royalty statements (Schedule Es?) each year for each one, ton of work come tax time. If I hold closed end funds, will I ever get anything like that? Or will I just get like 1099-DIVs and gain/loss things...
Cabin, I think I've seen you mention RVT before. That pick kind of intrigues me. I love the huge yield. But, despite it supposedly being a "value" fund, it has huge volatility. In ~2008 downturn it went from like 21.31 all the way down to below 6. Talk about a wipe out. Why in particular...
DAMN, this pain is starting to hurt. Bad. Like, this is me at like the 2:30 mark:
Where do you guys see the lows? QQQ mainly, but I'll take any of the indexes or index funds LOL.
Damn Overnight, sounds like you are taking horse kicks straight to the jaw like me. Feel bad mon. :(
But if that VIX hits 40, that's about the time you go all in...
I all long after today's action. I KNEW this shit was going to spike on the cut, was going to post it on here, but didn't realize the cut was happening today.
