    Co-odinated Central Bank Measures

Now some CNBC chatter about possible BOE rate cut later this morning. My personal opinion is that there won't be any rate cuts unless they are global and co-ordinated. Which means likely time for action would be around 8:30am NY time.

SEC issues rules against abusive short sales

I wouldn't be surprise to see the SEC panic and re-introduce the uptick rule or some modification of it. The sad thing is that it probably won't help as current moves are being driven by liquidation not short selling.

    Co-odinated Central Bank Measures

Hearing announcement of coordinated CB liquidity measures. This is gonna be a rock 'n roll day. edit: <10mins later and equities have given back all their gains on that news. phew...this market is in a tonne of trouble.

been thinking about LEH and AIG

I would not be surprised to see a cumulative 100bp cut from the Fed over the next few weeks. As for LEH. Barclays and others will pick over the scraps. AIG? Given their size and shear volume of outstanding trades with major counterparties, they are NOT going to be allowed to implode...

Who likes CNBC asia more than the north american one

Depending on your cable provider in the US, you may also be able to view CNBC europe from 10am cst.

So what's the Fed going to do?

The only way the banks are going to be able to recapitalize is by riding a yield curve that is as steep as possible. So I think they do 100bp cumulative in the next couple of weeks. Look at the breakeven on the TIPS. The have collapses recently. I'm not bond expert, but even if you make...

    AIG downgraded

The interesting thing is that even as the CNBC muppets continue to talk doom and gloom SP futures are ticking up... 5mins later: never mind. futures coming back down again.

    AIG downgraded

I think tomorrow will start off as another ugly day in stocks. Wouldn't be surprised to see the VIX print north of 40. - Fed might just slash Fed Funds and D/rate by 1% each. - Unless there is a take- over/under of AIG I think Paulson will blink first and extend a fully (and over)...

    No bailout...but rate cuts?

I wouldn't be surprised to see : - a Fed rate cut on Monday morning before 08:30 EST. - SEC changing the rules (again) on short selling... Any positive equity market influence will be short lived though. Stocks need to find their own level without being manipulated. The sooner that...

The low in S and P futures has been seen tonight

i don't know if we've seen the low but i am surprised that there are buyers willing to step in above the 1210 level.

So what happens if LEH doesn't declare bankruptcy tonight?

As soon as I hit the post button I saw the headline. wrt to asset management divisions it looks like they will continue operating as usual....for now.

So what happens if LEH doesn't declare bankruptcy tonight?

The fact that I haven't seen a news headline tells me either: a) The headline has not been run yet b) There was a last minute deal I dont't think Treasury or Fed will allow the markets to open tomorrow without either LEH being taken over/under or them filing for Chapter 7 protection.

    man...gee whezz...relax everyone...Its not like SP will go -60 or DOW -600...RELAX

Now that we've started talking about limit down in futures, I see buyers around last week's low.... I wouldn't be surprised to see a brief spell of short covering once we get the official announcement of LEH filing for Chap.7.

    man...gee whezz...relax everyone...Its not like SP will go -60 or DOW -600...RELAX

I've always dismissed the existence of the PPT but I do acknowledge that the equity market has an uncanny habit of coming back from the brink....

    man...gee whezz...relax everyone...Its not like SP will go -60 or DOW -600...RELAX

That 1200 level is also frightingly close to the overnight 5% limit down..... When was the last time SP was limit down overnight?

    Black Swan/Monday - Futures Crashing

When I saw the headlines about Barclays and BoA pulling out of Lehman talks I was 'sure' we'd open around 1210 with a swift move down below 1200. It's either a "gift" shorting opportunity here at 1220 or a warning sign we open tomorrows pit session around 1250. Trend is down so I'm gonna...

    CLX7 Topping Out?

Not many things are guaranteed in trading but I think it's a fair bet to say that Nov crude trades above 90.00 overnight and i imagine the most pain would be inflicted if we settled above 90 on Friday rather than below. Who wants to be short crude over the weekend? If dollar gets trashed on...

Bombshell: New Zealand Just Raised Their Interest Rate To 8% (Unexpectedly)

i was surprised by the muted reaction in the NZD. When it popped higher i was expecting it to keep going for at least a cent. Currency could be vulnerable here -tad of care on those bids matey!
