    cnbc is stunned

I think they are not familiar with the British term "poofter" ... meaning a gay man. It's just like saying fag in the US.

Successful traders: why don't you move to a 0% capital gains tax country?

Living in a low tax environment is nearly irrelevant if your income is also so low you are fighting to survive. You need to be earning serious six figure money before it matters much.

Successful traders: why don't you move to a 0% capital gains tax country?

It is stunning just how many don't seem to understand it is the package that counts and taxation is but one element of the package. Quality of life (friends, family, language personal history, loyalty to a homeland, climate), security -- both actual and perceived ,Newton's first law -- inertia...

Help me find a stocks and futures broker

Crossland has just been acquired or merged (not sure which) with Wedbush securities. I doubt they will offer a universal account as IB does but you can ask. BTW ... I know that some customers of IB have opened up with 10K and then quickly pulled 5K out and IB is apparently OK with that...

more or fewer technical traders than before

Insightful two sentences. Never underestimate the power of a compelling story (regardless if it is correct or not) on the minds of people. Most are hard wired to buy into narratives that ring right to them without subjecting the story to rigorous analysis.

Is Brokerage a zero risk operation?

The drying up of that important profit center was a major blow to the whole industry and contributed to the demise of a few firms.

    sky high inflation coming?

You are correct in your assertion that, by a large, business -- particularly big business -- has zero interest in free markets. They love the edge their lobbying gets them in tilting the playing field.

    sky high inflation coming?

Free credit markets are already gone. I think the question is when, if ever, they will be allowed to return. Implicit in your question is the opinion that it will certainly not be soon and possibly never. The problem is a political one as well as economic. They do not know how to crawl...

Does that mean you have been very unhappy for a long, long time?

Examples of statistical edges in sports betting?

When it is done properly there are many hours where it is similar to watching paint dry. The exciting hands are really very brief spurts in that ocean of drying paint.

Examples of statistical edges in sports betting?

I agree ... very tough to beat the vig in racing but congenital idiots (and even some bright people) donate money at the poker table. It is a game that can be beat and I have know a couple of guys that make their living playing it but it is by no means easy to win consistently. About 10 years...

Half way through life and not close to being consistent

You can't stick with any "style" that pits you against the market month after month. At some point you need to recognize what is happening in the market is much more important than your style. You either adjust or you suspend your trading until the market reverts back to what you consider normal.

Half way through life and not close to being consistent

How does the rest of your family -- particularly the wife or GF -- feel about your underwear methodology?

Thomas Peterffy: Elite Traders, please trade more! We are not making any $$$.

Spot on observation. For decades much of the profit was in borrowing at very low cost from clients and lending it at a much higher rate to other clients and/or buying paper. It is a much tougher business without that tit to suck on.

Half way through life and not close to being consistent

I'll refer you to the classic Reminiscences of a Stock Operator. Reading it will show you how to gage how late in the game you are. Markets do not turn all at once. You'll have to decide if the high momentum plays have had their day and set up for swing shorts even as you stay long some big...

Which broker is good for IPO?

Only a broker where you have political pull. No one is giving you a hot IPO in any size that matters based on your good looks.

Is Brokerage a zero risk operation?

Historically taking in customer money at zero or very low rates and earning 4, 5 or 6% has been a significant profit center for firms. At the moment that revenue source is gone. You seem to know next to nothing about any of this. You can't learn the game on a message board.

I'm not in that business and haven't a clue.

Is Brokerage a zero risk operation?

Brokerage is a direct marketing business. Bring in the clients at the right price and half the battle is won. If your cost per new client is too high you have zero chance. Like many businesses marketing is key.
