Tesla: let's think about what is going to happen after the presentation

It's my understanding that coal produces more electricity in the US than any other single source. Given that -- if it's accurate -- do electric cars makes sense from a green prospective?

Tesla: let's think about what is going to happen after the presentation

The only way to trade a stock like Tesla is to ignore the fundamentals (no way to justify the ratios) and trade price action when you like the activity. Why worry about what it is worth ... why not simply trade it when you feel you'll enjoy the ride and abandon it when you find a better vehicle...

How often do you inform spouse of P&L?

My wife and I are partners across the board. I have talked openly and regularly (usually over diner) no matter what business I have been in. She has always been open about both her jobs and businesses. It's never a report it's a conversation that I mostly enjoy. She's my girl and I wouldn't...

    IB vs tradestation

No experience with TradeStation but IB is the real deal. Not perfect but solid and if you are a small/medium retail trader it's the best you are likely to find. In a prior post I commented on why I think IB is far and away the better counterparty risk and I stand by that earlier opinion.

IPO First Trading Day Question for the Expierenced Traders Here

You do understand that most (and frequently all) of the price increase over the IPO price is built into the open? Good luck but using a market order may well put you in the stock at a price that is at or near the high of the day.

IPO First Trading Day Question for the Expierenced Traders Here

IPO's can trade with wild gyrations on day one. You sound like you are a buyer based on fundamentals. Decide the most you are willing to pay and place a limit buy order at that price. That way you won't pay triple the new issue price unless that is within your parameters of value.

I Am Not A Buyer But I Am Curious As To What Others Think ...

I want to be crystal clear that I believe all who can trade can't be bothered with the chore of selling this type of stuff ... so under not circumstance do I buy it. That said can anyone shed any light on how anyone can present a methodology like this that claims to use a one tic stop...

Did Interactive Active Brokers Honor CHF Stops Thursday ?

Finally some ground for agreement. You are correct that there is always the golden middle ground when it comes to risk and being long rare event risk is not a way to prosper. BTW, I don't call them Swans ... Taleb's phrase.

Did Interactive Active Brokers Honor CHF Stops Thursday ?

The only thing to be seen here is your misunderstanding of his central point. Once you get that then you should move along. No one believed that a Black Swan existed. Given how many white ones they had seen (and zero black ones) the black was unimaginable; it was widely believed to be...

Did Interactive Active Brokers Honor CHF Stops Thursday ?

The event was the SNB pulling the plug. The consequences of that event were the huge moves in the market. The main piece in the puzzle was the SNB and their action was certainly imaginable given the ECB's expected change in stance. If the market moves were half the size or twice the size the...

Did Interactive Active Brokers Honor CHF Stops Thursday ?

The problem is not solvable. The solution will likely cost you more than your anticipated profit on the trade. As Maverick has so correctly pointed out pegged (or more accurately rigged) markets at some point unwind and if you are betting on the side of the central bank what you are saying is...

Did Interactive Active Brokers Honor CHF Stops Thursday ?

What do people mean when they talk of stops being "honored". Having a stop does no good if the other side of the trade is not there. Surely, no one expects the broker to step up and stand against the tsunami!!

Bloomberg: How $50 Oil Changes Almost Everything

Byron Wien, a Blackstone Group LP vice chairman, predicting that Russian President Vladimir Putin will resign in 2015 and Iran will agree to stop its nuclear program. I'd love to fade the Putin bet and I think fading the Iran bet is not a bad play either if Iran must keep the program stopped...

Everything has some counterparty risk. The question is how much risk.

    Some way to find trend

Show an eight year old a RTH two day (or three) chart from one time frame higher than the one you intend to trade ( ie; if you are trading a 5 min chart show a 15 min chart) and ask him/her if it is going up or down. If they need to think you are in chop but if they immediately give you an...
