Seems liks day trading is all but finished!

There is a reason that there has never been any hype about this (as has been pointed out in other threads). The book you see is only the other electronic limit orders. It doesn't include what is going on on the floor, the orders that the specialist is making deals for on the floor, stops...

Seems liks day trading is all but finished!

Actually, the expo had booths, platforms and lectures on futures, options and commodities. It just seems as though there are fewer people still interested after, or who have survived, the last year (and the same for the reduction in vendors). Even the atmosphere seems different. There just...

Seems liks day trading is all but finished!

Exactly! There is nothing wrong with calling the situation what it is. Nobody is saying that every person here is doomed to fail. But this is the toughest time in at least a couple decades in a very tough profession. Its unfair to newer people wanting to access the markets and the potential of...

SEC to Nearly Double Equity Transaction Fee

You are so right, and you beat me to pointing out your latter point. The SEC isn't even the one that busted these companies for their accounting fraud, not is it the one that hit up the big Wall Street boys for their fraudulent analysts (NY Attn Gen Spitzer did that). I like your original point...

SEC to Nearly Double Equity Transaction Fee

I agree to a point EXCEPT on being long China. You think that gov't isn't corrupt?

I agree that it is certainly not the end of the world if and when many of us have to quit trading. However, not enjoying failure, or the possibility of failure, in no way means that someone does not otherwise appreciate life. That someone is not immediately happy about moving on from a...

Seems liks day trading is all but finished!

If this isn't implying that the market is not especially tough for the general trading population (rathen than just for fourcups) then I don't know what is (other than coming out and saying it, but then you wouldn't simply be implying it, would you). Missing the Boat, What is stupid is...

Seems liks day trading is all but finished!

Who's "whining" here. I'm asking people to be realistic. I'm stating how the good majority of people are clearly doing, at least in equities! So for someone to state that the view that market conditions are worse is merely that individual's perception is absurd. Its not "whining" to refute a...

Seems liks day trading is all but finished!

If you're improving while the market gets worse, more power to you. But to imply that the market is getting better, and that for someone struggling the market being tough is merely his or her "perception," is stupid. By the thousands, daytraders as a whole (and on average) are not doing nearly...

    this market

That's so true. I think sometimes (not always of course) it is the few elite and insitutional traders squeezing out the weak majority. They know the psychology. They know where most people can't take the pain anymore. Perhaps this is a naive view.

I wish I were such a nice guy. I usually say the same thing, but deep inside I'm really hoping people choke on the lobster, filet mignon and champagne paid for by my losses! :)

I've noticed that too. I'm glad somebody said something (I guess its not surprising it came from a moderator).

SEC to Nearly Double Equity Transaction Fee

That's outrageous! They already raised it not that long ago. Now they're raising it signifcantly. At a time when the markets and government NEED market investments and participation, it is extremely greedy (along with unfair) to further tax those participating in the markets!

Are you guys prepared for this bear market +5 years?

I'm ready to Lay the Smack Down On This Market! I'm gonna make a gazilliong bucks. I'm gonna trade from Monte Carlo this time next year..... Actually, I'll be lucky if I'm not working at McDonald's, but everyone else seems to sound so optimistic.

Are you guys prepared for this bear market +5 years?

That was probably true when people were eagerly anticipating the next rally. I don't think people give a damn about this market anymore. Most investors have had it with the markets, at least for quite some time. Not only that, but most people no longer have much money to invest. This market is...

    Are you prepared?

And its this view that causes people to spend 5 years or more with nothing to show for it.

    Are you prepared?

Almost everyone who is not filthy rich or born to money should be (or have already been) preparing themselves for a new career and future. Otherwise, there are great opportunity costs (time, career building, money, retirement) going to waste! That's my opinion.
