    Writing Covered Puts

MTE, no sweat. I know that this is not a personal attack. What has happened is that the gang has taught me how much fun it can be to dish it out as well as take it. So, that's what I'm doing. As so many have said to me. Just accept it. It's the ET way. Finally, I will NEVER NEVER...

Algo..., I agree with everything you said. Only thing I would take exception to is what you said in the last sentence being limited to the ET forums. Bob

    Writing Covered Puts

writing covered puts might not be as efficient as what MANY of you do, but it is as profitable as what ANY of you do. MTE, if you buy one of those brilliant efficient OTM verticals and the stock doesn't move in your direction, you have a brilliant efficient OTM vertical that lost 100% of...

Thanks Major. My answer would have been B. At least that't the way I trade. Would be interested in the views of others also. Bob

    Writing Covered Puts

"Good Directional Trader" I hear this term from time to time. Does it mean: A. One who is correct on the direction of the underlying a high percentage of the time? B. One who is proficient in positioning themselves for profit a high percentage of the time, irrespective of which...

    AAPL Earnings

Earnings announcement due today (Wednesday) after market close. Interesting that IV on current month options has already fallen back. I don't know the Why...only the What. With January option IV a fraction of what it was just last Friday...so much for a short strangle. The restatement...

    Writing Covered Puts

Actually, in the final analysis, what is said here - by me or one of you- means nothing. It's only what shows up on the scoreboard (our brokerage statements) that counts. And, for sure, I have never seen a synthetic equivalence on a broker's statement. But this is a lot of fun. Bob

    Writing Covered Puts

Hey gang, I'm still trying to adapt to how rough these ET forums can get. Some of you are hell bent on arguing even when the other person completely agrees with you. Once I really get acclimated to this, you will find out that I have just as much fun dishing it out as receiving it...

    Writing Covered Puts

Major, my understanding of a long straddle is long a put and call, same strike price, same expiration, same number of contracts. Do I pass? What do I win? Actually, Smililngsynic agreed with me in stating that there was a visual relationship. That's all I was getting at. No need to go...

    Writing Covered Puts

Cohenmichaela, the rule isn't all that surprising when one stops to realize that the rules are written by lawyers not options traders. But, ya know what? Even though I know exactly where you're coming from, I also feel more comfortable shorting the stocks and writing puts against them, than I...

    Writing Covered Puts

Just 21, thanks for your posting. I use Schwab. Actually, I commend them on their qualification rules. I have no problem with the fact that they don't permit me to write naked options. Thanks again, Bob

    Writing Covered Puts

Osh: Sorry I don't know the answer to your question. Smilling: Many people, myself included, don't qualify to write that second Put without the short share backup. Nevertheless, your posting intrigues me. Would the risk graph somehow resemble a calendar spread? Thanks so much to both...

    Buying/Selling Options

This thread is getting pretty long so rather than further clutter this thread with my nonsense about the covered put write, I put it on a new thread. Bob

    Writing Covered Puts

This is one of my favorite strategies: short the stock; sell puts against it. (Yes, I'm aware that this is the synthetic equivalent of writing naked calls. But the Broker qualification criteria is different, and thus easier to qualify.) Bob

    Buying/Selling Options

I would like to ask the gang to weigh in on what their favorite income strategy is. Mine is one which is done by very few people, but popularity is not a requisite to money making. My favorite strategy is Covered Put Writing. That's right. Shorting the stock, and writing puts against it...

    Buying/Selling Options

Options Coach, thanks for the words of advice and encouragement. I am learning to cope with the rough terrain here. But, as rough as it can get, there's a lot of comfort from knowing that there's also a lot of class in this crowd, especially from folks like Mav, Ursa, Daddy's Boy, and of...

    Buying/Selling Options

Urs, no doubt the IV will drop probably with Thursday morning's opening prices. But, I strongly believe that the IV impact will mostly be for the options at or near the money and only for the January and February options. The April and July options haven't really spiked that much anyway...
