    Vertical Spreads for Aggressive Growth

You're not kidding. Every stock I look at is at 52-week lows right now. I said at the beginning of this journal that I was going to limit long put/call plays to 5% of capital, but there are a lot of good plays right now because of the low IV. I might increase that through next month when...

    Advisory Services?

The interesting thing about these options advisory services, is that most of the time they aren't even registered investment advisors, dealer/brokers, or any other type of educated investment professional. They are skirting around the rules regarding mass recommendations by using small print...

No. The mid on the SPX is always higher than the equivalent mid on XSP. But (expecially the last 4 weeks before expiry) the SPX mids jump around a lot. So when doing a r/r analysis it becomes very difficult to determine what you might get filled at. For example yesterday I had a spread limit...

It's what comes with a huge corp. A large IT department with enough resources to stay ahead of the game.

Basically I take a quick look at XSP to get a good idea of what I could get if I traded it instead of SPX. In my experience I can almost always get filled at the mid with both XSP and SPY. This gives me a good idea of what the MMs will be willing to give up. I actually like to base my r/r...

    Vertical Spreads for Aggressive Growth

Thought I would check out the chart again after your comments. I didn't notice the support at 86 that turned into resistance last month. The quick spike through it caused me to miss it. I based my decision on support at 80-81 and the 20SMA. I'll keep a close eye on it though. Thanks for the...

I'm playing this one a little bit more aggressive, because I already had some plays that will hedge in the event of a big run. On the jump this morning I got filled on 1340/1350 bear call. Then during the dip this afternoon I got filled on 1240/1250 bull put.

Finally got filled on my APR SPX orders. :D In other news, I was all amped to see if gotomypc.com would allow me to access ToS platform from my work office. Total let down when I found out that the corp that I work for has a block on the site.

Well, I finally got filled on some SPX calls. With any decent drop I will be looking for a good put spread to finish off the IC.

    Vertical Spreads for Aggressive Growth

Got filled on a DNA APR bull call this morning and a long BAC MAY put. I'm 0.15 under mid on SPX calls right now and can't get filled. If I'm gonna have to give up this much I might just have to jump over to SPY or XSP instead.

    Poker and the Beginning Trader

Craziest thing I've ever seen on a poker table! I'm in Vegas a week or so ago. Playing some 2-4 hold'em while my wife spends all my money at the spa. I'm dealt Ac 9h. Flop => 10h Jh Kh I've got a stright flush draw or an Ace high stright draw. So I stay in for the turn. Turn => Qh...

Even in the indices there is still IV risk at expiry, because at expiry the IV of the short leg becomes irrelavent as there is no extrinsic value. If the IV of the long leg has changed from where it was initially, you have a situation that is very similar to the one described above.
