Explanation For Closing Spike on Friday

Has to do with Russell 2000 entrance criteria...not conspiracies by aliens to run your stops. Do some homework, and you'll see that some of these "conspiracies" are just regular market events that you could cash in on. Last minutes of the last day in May have been seeing action like this...

    Cah-lee-for-nee-ah just got downgraded

I guess Ahnold turned out to be an "economic gurleeman," just like he so eloquently described his democratic counterparts. Guess he couldn't squat his way out of this one.

    GREAT news out of California

This sounds similar to the "conundrum" that Greenspan experienced during 2004. Quote: "I complained in June 2004 to Vincent Reihart, director of the Division of Monetary Affairs at the Federal Reserve Board. I was perturbed because we had increased the federal funds rate, and not only had...

    Hong Kong Going Vertical

You do realize that to reach 30K on the H.S., it would need to rally another 75% from these lofty levels. Incredulous. I'm going to go with crazy.....'Yes' or 'No?'" -Macke

Is facebook really worth 10 billion?

It's not worth that amount of money. The way these websites value their businesses is more ridiculous than an Angelo Mozillo "MBS mark-to-model" approach. They put dollar values on hits and ridiculous stuff like that. It's a sham, all the way around. Russia cracks me up. Maybe Putin wants...

Jeff Macke has officially lost his marbles

"I'm going to go with crazy.....'Yes' or 'No?'"-JM As many times as I see this thing, I'm perplexed and dumbfounded at Macke's state of mind. Maybe he had a really wicked round of dental surgery before he went on, or maybe he was chasing dragons; who knows. Madness I tell you!

    Early 80's Market Correlation

No, I do most of my own data analysis, but MRCI is fine. Another leg down is in the bag, but I guess the real question is "how low will it go?" It might only be a 1/2-2/3 retracement of this mega rally, or it could be a double bottom, or worse...but who really knows. I just think that for the...

    Early 80's Market Correlation

I know that many are eye balling the inverse H&S setup on the S&P that has been developing all year long. I would just like to make an observation with regards to the H&S setup: Since the market meltdown of last year, inverse H&S's on the S&P have underperformed (failed most of the time) on...

What economic indicators are supposed to help indicate a bottom?

Find yourself some confidence/sentiment indicators as well. Even though the fed is f-ing up all of the normal credit relationships, it would still be helpful to watch spreads as well .

"what do you use to perdict the future?" I use terrible spelling and grammar to predict the future.

    US Debt Ratings Downgrade, meaningless?

Tend to agree with that statement. We'll have 25% annual inflation rates, and civil war, but somehow our AAA rating will stay in tact. When the game is rigged, it's tough to bet against the house.

High Food Costs: Inflation or Manipulation?

Only sticky with respect to downside adjustments. I should have said that prices are very flexible/elastic to the upside, while sticky and inelastic to the downside.

    US Debt Ratings Downgrade, meaningless?

It was only rated AAA b/c of the mortgage insurance written on it. The underlying assets were never AAA, but the addition of insurance made the rating higher. This is why Ambac and MBIA are toast. No one ever said that the subprime mortgages, by themselves, warranted a AAA rating.

High Food Costs: Inflation or Manipulation?

    Price inelasticity of necessities/staples.
