New IB Home Page - Nicely Done

They switched from "winter" colors to "summer" colors. Most of the complaints about switching colors would probably have been the same if it had been the other way around. When you get used to the new color scheme, you'll complain again when they switch back to blues or greens. I think...

is the crowd always wrong ??

The most people. Warren Buffet is not the crowd, but he may be the most money.

is the crowd always wrong ??

Then the crowd isn't always wrong. It's right half the time, and wrong half the time.

    Jesse J. w/o a doubt, the BEST

Ewwwwwww, I smell the electoral College! You'd think these College types would be intelligent enough to know to flush something that smells like that! Guess education doesn't = intelligence.

    I'm getting better

I don't know. I do think it's a good opportunity to be in on the beginning of something that's likely to increase in volume and popularity in the coming years. Just as I think the BOX exchange, when it finally gets off the ground, will be an opportunity to be involved in from the beginning...

    I'm getting better

About 100 stocks now. They add a new one now and then. Spreads are average 8¢, some stocks are typically 5 or 6 cents, some are 9 or 10, but 8¢ is general average. When market rips an 8¢ spread SSF may go to 10-12 cents for a few seconds or so.

    Creating an empowering trading metaphor

I do see it as an ocean with daily tides, which bring in or out the thousands of different varieties of marine life. Each one needs to be caught a little differently, but they basically all come in or out with the same tides.

    please share SSF intraday experiences

Well your entire adventure today spanned 12 minutes, and you basically got your first taste of it for the cost of commission on two contracts. If you can increase your time frame to a few hours or even a few days, you might find some satisfaction with SSF. MSFT is a good one to start out...

    I'm getting better

This is what I tell people when they say that Single Stock Futures would be nearly ideal except for the 8¢ average spreads. Place your order 2¢ or 3¢ better than the bid/ask, you will usually get filled at your price. A few ETFs do trade in Single Stock Future form too. QQQ, DIA, and 7...

    I think it's the Weather

Monday and tuesday it was sunny and warm, flowers were blooming, birds were chirping, market went up. Today it's raining. Market's down. It isn't rocket science!

    Why Not Use Margin?

Never use full margin. A little margin as an overdraft protection is no problem. Probably half of your available leverage is a good general maximum (and used infrequently). So with 2:1 stock margin, using 50% margin should be about your limit (instead of 100%). With 5:1 SSF margin, half...

    Why Not Use Margin?

Well that's factored into the price, isn't it. But the point is, if you buy a SSF at $30, and sell it at $31.02 (if your commission is $1 per contract), your profit will be exactly $100, regardless how long you held it, your account won't be charged any other interest fees to calculate.

    Why Not Use Margin?

There's about 100 stocks that have stock futures. It's a very good basic list, including most of the Dow Jones Index. For instance, QLGC, you could have done quite nicely with that one today (knowing that it was earnings reporting for them). Illiquid is somewhat of a myth. Especially if...

    Why Not Use Margin?

Guess what. Single Stock Futures give you 5:1 margin, and there's no margin interest on it! Links are in my signature. With 5:1 margin, you can comfortably trade 2:1 your account size, with no margin call problem. Even 3:1 will be ok just about all the time if you're doing ok trading.

    Why Not Use Margin?

If you have $10,000, and you use your margin to buy $20,000 worth of stock, you're in trouble as soon as your positions go against you. By the time your losses reached 50% (discounting margin calls) you would be totally wiped out. If you use your $10,000 to buy $10,000 worth of stock, you...

I demand that the main page of any stock-related site that I use have a photo of a guy with his sleeves rolled up and his arms stretched toward the ceiling in a V pattern.
