A fixed stop loss is tough with all the volatility ..... probably better to do a stop and reenter. So if I am long from X, stop loss will be at (X-80) and reenter at (X-30) If I am short from X, stop loss will be at (X+80) and reenter at (X+30)

So does anyone do "smart" route via DirectBuy / DirectSell? Does it actually work? I subscribe to about 50 stocks, not to get data, just so I can place orders. The smart route needs L2 data, and I wonder if it is getting bogged down with so many ..... and how would I even know :eek:

Daytrading odd lots is ok if you route to Nasdaq or BATS, not allowed at NYSE. And at Genesis, apparently, it is never OK .... I did 40, 50, 60 share trades for about month (routed correctly) and then my account was frozen. I had to call them. I guess having a blanket rule is the easiest way...

If you are using a far out limit order to simulate a market order .... sometimes it is rejected. i.e. if a stock is at 8.50 x 8.52 and you bid 8.95, I have seen it randomly get rejected.

Probably a huge VWAP order .... which executes in small chucks during the day, by an algorithm that attempts to fill the order at the volume weighted average price for the day. Then the trade is reported afterhours.

I have seen systems lose money for many weeks, hundreds of trades. Then right when you proclaim it dead, it goes on a huge win streak. This is the rule, rather than the exception, when you are actually trading. Best approach is multiple non-correlated systems.
