buy straddles on ES for end of week

Not if the straddle is as cheap as you say. Of course, buying a straddle before earnings is a dangerous game. Once that announcement is out, that thing will deflate faster than a punctured balloon. You'd better pray for a massive move to pay off that premium BEFORE it all erodes.

Facing Off Against the Credit Derivatives Cabal

Risk of derivatives 'not fully evaluated' Here's a link to an MSNBC article about the Deloitte study. I couldn't get my hands on the real thing because Deloitte makes you pay to download the PDF. It interesting stuff, though, if you can get your hands on it. I perused the site with the...

Forex Scams Are Out of Control

All interesting points. I don't know if I would tout the ease of using gold futures, though. After all, your average retail trader/investor wouldn't know how to open a futures account if their life depended on it. They are much better off going for the ETF, which is exactly what they have been...

    GOOG buys DoubleClick

I have some friends who work for that buyout firm and they are quite happy fellows today. They paid $1.1 Billion in 2005 and put up only $300 million in equity. Not a bad return on equity at all. On the whole, though, I find this a bit scary because it means that Google ads are going to...

    Option scam

You just discovered the magic of the 'free post-exercise days." Every novice options trader is always amazed when he forgets to exercise or sell a position and winds up with a few free days of float in the underlying. You will pay fees to close out those underlying positions at the end of...

    Best source for FREE information

There are lots of good free sources of market information out there. I primarily use options information sites, so those are my favorites, but there are many more than ICE man to choose from.... www.oicoptions.com www.cboe.com www.theoptionsinsider.com www.888options.com I'm sure...

    Trading forums

It depends what you're looking for.... ET is definitely great for general trading info. However, there are others that I use when I want to discuss specific products. I primarily trade options, so I float around this forum quite a bit: Options Trading Forum They also discuss futures...

    taxes in chicago

Save your cash and pick up a copy of TurboTax Home & Business edition. That should solve all of your problems. It has a very extensive Schedule D section that will allow you to sort all of your trades by date and basis. That should take care of your little problem.

    CME pushing out bad data?

I have to agree about the CME data. I've had nothing but problems whenever I try to rely on CME time & sales. The futures pits are mired in the stone age, and time & sales is a relic of that antiquated system. The CME needs a nice kick in the butt to get their tech into the modern age.

Hedge Funds Invade the Options Markets

The assumption is that it is profitable, otherwise why would they stay in the business? You don't need to be on the floor to get access to order flow. In fact, market makers are frequently the last people to learn about big orders. Most significant options orders, and quite a few of the...

    Rumble Over the CBOT Escalates

ICE Exec Meets with CBOE Brass on CBOT Offer Just saw that the ICE chairman met with the CEO of the CBOE this week. They are definitely trying to up the ante in this deal by trying to hammer out the CBOT's exercise right on the CBOE. CBOE seats are currently trading in excess of $2...

NYSE & CBOE to Join Forces?

An NYSE/CBOE alliance makes sense, especially if they want to take on the CME/CBOT or take on NASDAQ when it enters the options markets. That would be one heck of a powerhouse if they decided to join forces, though. A force to be reckoned with, especially now that NYSE has Euronext. An...

Amaranth's Brian Hunter to launch new Hedge Fund

"he's now "battle hardened" That's laughable. Any jackass can bet everything on one roll of the dice and lose it all. Everyone knows that the true skill of a trader is knowing not just when to get in, but also when to get out. This idiot obviously hasn't learned that lesson, so he has no...

NYSE & CBOE to Join Forces?

NYSE & CBOE to Lay Down Their Swords This is an intriguing idea that I hadn't been aware of before. The NYSE & CBOE have a llong history of fighting bitterly then making up, and this might be another example of that. Imagine what the resulting exchange would look like, and how dominant it...

    Rumble Over the CBOT Escalates

Hmmm...interesting article. I think the CME needs to swallow their pride, shut the f*ck up in the press and get ready to dig into their wallets. The CBOT wants cash....it's time to put up or shut up. I think the best part of this whole deal is that a tiny little Atlanta futures exchange...
