    Amex halted?

If it's the Amex, specialists probably ran out of K-Y jelly so they couldn't execute anymore of our trades

Prop trading looks great, then why most retail traders don't simply join in?

It all depends on your timeframe and strategy. A 9/11 event is an overnight thing. Any of our traders that were leveraged overnight that much would have to have been hedged, so while their longs took a hit, their shorts made up for it. It's risk-managed trading that keeps that from happening...

Prop trading looks great, then why most retail traders don't simply join in?

You don't necessarily need to quit your day job. I have a number of traders that are leveraging every day pre-"day job" and making some nice money. If you're trading profitably now, and would like to increase your size, but don't have enough capital, that's a straight forward scenario where...

Prop trading looks great, then why most retail traders don't simply join in?

Specific to who? I have traders we know real well that we've given 50:1+. I also have traders we know real well that we've limited to 5:1. Generally, for what you're describing, you'd probably be looking at 20:1 to start and then based on your personal volatility, it would be adjusted. Cash

Prop trading looks great, then why most retail traders don't simply join in?

I don't know of old quizzes, but there are a number of $99 courses on the internet. I would guess retail brokers don't do prop because of the risk involved to them.

Prop trading looks great, then why most retail traders don't simply join in?

Generally, if you take a decent home study course and work at it for an hour or two a day for a month, reading the material, taking the quizzes, practice chapter tests, and practice exams, most people are able to pass it. Leverage varies with your style and how much you have hedged (long...

Prop trading looks great, then why most retail traders don't simply join in?

I know that we definitely do. Maybe some other firms have changed things and don't. Based on your comments, I now have a third reason why people may not do prop. They may have incorrect information about how prop firms work. Cash

Prop trading looks great, then why most retail traders don't simply join in?

I would think there are two primary reasons why people don't trade prop: 1. Series 7 license - A lot of people just don't want to put in the time and effort to get this license and it's required to trade prop. You're basically stepping up to the next level of commitment in your trading...

I'm not familiar with what you describe. I don't know of any firms that don't allow you to hold overnight.

Custom Indices - Best way to calculate?

I'm looking to create a custom index. Basically a sector index of stocks that I choose. What would be the best or most accurate way to do that type of index from the standpoint of component weighting? No weighting: I could have each component in the index have equal value. Market Cap...

new strategy born out of frustration...

Here's a better one: Get buddy-buddy with the worst trader you can find. Make sure you get him to call out his trades. Every time he does, you take the other side.:D

Doesn't that park up by the museum have a free broadband blanket? (sorry, I forget the name) I think it's near Rock center (been a while since I was in Manhattan).

    Historical Level 2 data

Not sure about historical L2 camtasia can record your screen, but resource intensive... if you want to record L2 data, and your platform has an API or DDE links, that would probably be less resource intensive and then you could analyze the data easier. Cash
