    Automated Trading

If it's a good system, you may want to check into having it converted into a faster language. You didn't say what you were using now, but if you're using Excel, C++ or compiled VB can give you significant more speed. Even optimizing your Excel VBA can do that... I had an intense program that...

Someone tell me about the realities of intraday trading

This was sent to me via PM and I'm answering here to also help others who may have a similar question. [B] wrote on 08-01-06 01:50 PM: Time period is tough... it depends on your timeframe for holding trades... if it's an intraday thing, I'm usually doing a backtest every week for the...

Airlines, great trade, but awful investments. Will people make the same mistake

Hmmmm... sounds like EVERYONE's bullish on an industry - if it hits the cover of newsweek/time/etc it may be a good short as is so often the case. Cash

Good idea to use hard/native stops

Bud, you DEFINITELY need to get a UPS. At least that will give you a controlled shutdown. If you don't like to use hard stops, then you don't have to put them in until the power goes out. Just remember to hook up all essential components... screens, systems, modems, routers, etc. Cash

Someone tell me about the realities of intraday trading

If you backtest it, the most conservative approach is to use the most adverse exit and entry of your bars. This should account for slippage issues and if it's profitable thiat way, then it should be profitable in real trading. Cash

    Remote trading with Bright

Look up "aggregate" on dictionary.com: "Constituting or amounting to a whole; total: aggregate sales in that market." is the most appropriate definition (as opposed to the "The mineral materials, such as sand or stone, used in making concrete" definition :D ) Or in this case the total...

Why Did Bright Close It's Dallas Office?

What I was trying to do was show that if you look at the universe of remote traders, percentage-wise, it will have a very small success rate because you have such a high-percentage of un-trained or poorly-trained traders, part-time people, hobbyists, etc. And if you look at the universe of...

Why Did Bright Close It's Dallas Office?

Interesting numbers. I'd be interested in knowing where you came up with them. I have no substantiative numbers myself for ALL traders who are remote or ALL traders who trade in an office, but from the remote trader's I've personally worked with, the success rate is significantly higher and...

    The 2% rule

I'm not a fan of exit strategies like this. What you are doing is basing your trading on your account, not the market. The market doesn't give a rat's ass about your account, so don't be surprised if you get shaken out of a position only to see it turn right around and go in your favor using...

Custom Indices - Best way to calculate?

I was thinking that it would give more weighting to stocks that are in play more than usual. Just a thought.

Custom Indices - Best way to calculate?

That sounds like money in the bank. Is it equal weighted or is it mkt cap based? (or something else?) do you trade SMH based on it?

Custom Indices - Best way to calculate?

It's more to create indices of specific sub-industries that don't already have an index. For example an athletic shoes IDX would have NKE, RBK, FL, and some others.

Why Did Bright Close It's Dallas Office?

The Dallas office was closed a long time ago. It's suprising someone is bringing it up now. I see someone mentioned that there would have been more noise if the NYC office was closed. It was, and there wasn't. I have been Bright's remote manager since 1998 and trading since 1997. When I...
