    If the puts expire within a week, then two days' time decay will eat all your profit. Also sounds like he bought OTM puts, which is not that sensitive to stock move.

    Since it is a long vega position, drop in IV will hurt it. Open attached chart to see the position vega, i.e. it shows total vega as $56.55, what it means is that for every 1% drop in IV ( i.e. from 35% to 34% ), the position loses $56.66.

    Long term options (LEAPS), should have a proportionately higher time value?

    You can talk about what a options price should be all day long if you like, but just never forget the fact that options price is ultimately determined by supply/demand. In most cases, LEAPS are not as attractive as near term months, for one thing, the leverage factor is much smaller.

    The previous post mentioned ratio 3 means after ER, front month IV drop 3 times as much as back month IV. i.e. if before ER, IV is 90% and 60%, after ER, IVs will be 60% and 50% if ratio is set to 3.

    I think CRB means Calendar Ratio Backspread, which is not nirvana and has drawback of its own like any other strategies.
