    optionmonster/trademonster

Good morning guys, To make a long story short, I contacted wolverine trading last week to check out their platform and fees and if they had something interesting to offer. I am an option trader that does around 5000 contracts a month, thats the answer I got: "We have an execution platform in...

    Vix: covered call question

    1) the jan vix futures closed at 22.65... so your jan call currently is in the money by 2,65$... So thats your first problem 2) the vix future is cash settle with a size of 1000. That means 22.65*1000=22650$. The vix options are set at 100, so you need 10 vix options to equal 1 vix future...

So how was your performance in 2009

Well I guess that I had a very good year considering the previous posters... I'm up 51% for this year. The strange part is that I actually consider myself to be a very conservative/selective trader

    Debit Spreads (NO margin required)

That is true in this example but it is far from true in general. There are many debit strategies that require margin. Its in regard to the maximum potential loss. Example of potential debit strategies that requires margin: risk/reversal or synthetic short

Protect Iron condors using the VIX

All of this is 100% true. Vix options are based on the futures of the corresponding months. Prior to the introduction of vix futures, yes the vix spot already existed but it was what is called a "non-investable" index. That means you could not buy the index or a basket equivalent to the index...

Protect Iron condors using the VIX

Like MTE said, alot of cheap puts (not too cheap though: at least 0,30$)

Protect Iron condors using the VIX

Its been discussed at lenght already. The problem with Vix options is that they track the futures and its very unlikely the may future would be significantly impacted if the spot Vix moves by "only" 7%. Cheap units on the actual underlying are probably a better way to go.

Well I'd be floored if 20% of the people who will answer are actually in Georgia! Especially during those winter months: many of us folks living up north...!

    Option income strategies

I actually think this makes sense, I tend to do better in higher vol market conditions. I don't think it actually has to be the case but I just can't seem to "force" myself to adapt my trading (even though I know what I could do). Like sprindr0 said, I think we stick to what we do best even if...

    Option income strategies

I agree with most of what you say but I'd like to pinch in on that part... It would only be true when you target absolute return (obviously thats the case with us both not with most money managers). If you benchmark yourself to the s&p500, then any fool can beat it when its down, you just need...
