    Trading Gold Index

Bonds, I don't trade either right now. I'm currently in the process of searching for markets and trading systems that work well together. I could trade either, but what I think I'm looking for is spot or spot futures. The HH index seemed to be a good way to get extended historical data without...

    Trading Gold Index

yes, I am VERY new to gold and the only reason why I'm interested is because of a range-trading strategy that I developed trades against gold well (at least since 2000 to present). A concern is that it only made 7 trades during that time (could be curve fit). I think I might paper trade or...

    Trading Gold Index

OK, the Handy & Harman Index varies from the spot market closing price by about 2-4% (in 2005) Some of this could be due to differences in the time of day that the spot market data was collected vs. the closing price of the HH index (spot might be London time, HH index might be NY time).

    Trading Gold Index

That may be an option..given that TradeStation has the data (which it does for a few gold related futures/indecies). The results for the Handy & Harman index are hopeful and I've seen it quoted on other sites, but with no information on how it's constructed. Perhaps I can do a study on spot gold...

    Trading Gold Index

Hi All, I'm working in Trade Station and developed a strategy that performs well against the "Handy & Harman" Gold Index. I'm new to gold and even after 30 minutes of googleing I can't determine: 1. how this index is constructed nor 2. how it relates to spot gold prices Is anyone...

What do you folks think of this basket?

Maybe you could hedge using options. The fact is, you are exposed to certain pairs moving for/against you. Maybe you could buy an OTM option to protect you, at least a little bit, should an adverse 'event' happen.

Stanford MBA vs Berkeley Financial Engineering

Sam, I really like your comment here. To be honest, I just completed an MBA and have found that the lure of prestige appealing but empty. Quality of life, relationships and ability to pursue what is important make up life. Great post.

I'm a committed Christian, yet I think any calm that I may have comes from the confidence of having a well developed trading system.

Stanford MBA vs Berkeley Financial Engineering

I would question the assumption that if you left a 100K job to spend a year in school that your opp cost is 100K flat. It is not. Much of that 100K goes to taxes, expenses and much less goes to actually building your net worth. If you are saving 25% gross/year, then maybe the opp cost is 25K...

    magic journal of doom

That looks great! You're way up from 21K a month ago. Have you tested it against a bear market yet? I follow Investors Business Daily and they suggest not investing during those times, but to wait for bull markets. Good luck!

    What is the Fed Smoking?

...ehem..hit the wrong key,,, anyway, that they want to continue raising the rates. Here's why: During the tech bubble crash, the fed lowered interest rates to record lows and the number of new businesses started on samll business loans were at an all time record high. It is understood...

    What is the Fed Smoking?

I've got an answer: While in Biz school last year we had a quest speaker who had worked for Bush and who had regular meetings with Greenspan. She said that it was the Fed's perspective and the administration's view that interest rates should CONTINUE

    Trading the weather

yes, I concure... but the price moves from $10 to $180 and back down to $10 in nice trends during the course of a year. I would think that liquidity is growing and so I wonder if anyone has tried this market. I don't know of any market that moves this much (without leverage).

    Trading the weather

Does anyone do this? The CME's weather futures seem to have some VERY extreme price fluctuations. Looks like an interesting market to trade.
