    Great Depression II (2000-201?)

It may be simpler than we think. I am reminded of something that happened some years ago here in Auckland, New Zealand while I was working in Asia. The center of Auckland went for an extended period in a "blackout" because electricity grid could not cope with the load and some main trunks...

    Great Depression II (2000-201?)

In another post I mentioned the following a while back: After reading harrytrader's piece I am reminded about the pre-WW II era in Germany where a few companies (I believe 6) more or less told the government what to do. IS that any differrent from what is happening today? The coming of...

Foremost you may want to ask yourself: "What is my focus: Trading or playing with technology?" If you decide that you are a trader then you ask yourself: "What platform allows me to accomplish the easiest / fastest what I need for my trading?" Would not want to waste my time learning...

POLL: IB TWS vs J-TRADER, Which is more "Reliable"?

how true. Have been with IB 18 months. Am living presently in New Zealand and had trouble with the connections, loosing connection about once every second or third day. Investigation made me suspect overload of the internet connections from NZ to the US. Switched to the Hong Kong server and...

when do you know your ready?

Perhaps we are able to have some decent discussion again without the profanities. One thing I have learned is that the market teaches respect and humility. If you have either too much or none then you'll be finished before starting. It is not a matter of IF, it is only a matter of WHEN...

when do you know your ready?

Let me ask you Gamal: Do you have fire insurance / house insurance / car insurance / health insurance? You never make a mistake? Then you are not of this world. Where did I mention that I rely on my stops to get out when the trade goes against me? I may not be able to attend to my trading...

when do you know your ready?

I agree to this. And a normal beginners mistake is that they overtrade so make sure that you have enough in your account to keep on trading for a living when the returns are only a third of what you expect them to be.

when do you know your ready?

no stops , heard that one before recently: "my system will always work, it will never stop". yeah right, the guy who said this recently lost two thirds of his account. Suggest to have a stop , far enough from the market not to be hit frequently and manage the trade and get out when it does...

    Centrino Laptops -- powerful enough?

Limitdown, thank you for starting this thread and it is interesting to find out the target group for the centrino, I did not know that is not designed for heavy usage. Learned something again. One thing which is important is to make sure that the laptop is capable of driving a second...

    Tradestation is $113 per month

You can look on eBay and see if you can find TS2000i, some people sell their (unused) software there. I bought mine outside the US when the US has stopped selling TS2000i but when it was still available in other countries. If you want an intraday feed then you can use IB with a free interface...

    My next motherboard

You can always run VMWare and run the Win stuff under that. Last time I experimented with it (most of) the earlier problems had been sorted out. I was running XP Professional, Win2000 Professional and Win2000 server all at the same time with a "virtual" network between all of them. Very nice if...

Confidence based on a couple O' points....

Amigasearch, two years ago I made a system, intra day position trading, for the ES, 100% mechanical, 100% automated. It was backtested & walk forward tested over three years, 2300 trades. P/F was around 1.36. It traded well for two months in real life, then the ES range contracted and...

Tight stops vs. loose stops vs. no stops

Let's talk about Toby Crabel: Buy at the open and sell at the close (winner or looser). Is that regarded as working with stops? Thanks.

Are there pullback systems that backtest well?

Tight stops vs. loose stops vs. no stops

I will confirm axeman's statement. I know of a local trader, who doubles his account yearly and is using no stops. I have seen his account statements and I know his system. But I will not trade this guy's system as the equity swings are too big for my temperament.

    Breaking news

Someone related a story to me that supposedly happened early last century. Don't know if it is true or not. This had to do with terrorists too and this general captured a lot of them. Then when he had bound them to the stake he led in a number of pigs, slaugthered them and had the bullets...
