Why so many beginners get into daytrading, with sky-high expectations?

they paper trade. What i find really humorous is people here on ET who design systems, and then argue until they are blue in the face that paper trading results are valid if you follow the system! They obviously don't get it that psychology and money management are prolly 90% of the battle...

Inflation in U.S. Highest Since 1981; Fed Not Expected to Raise Rates

FED is non partisan, and they were set up that way on purpose. This is why you always know who the heir apparent is ahead of time, and they don't get fired for policy the administration is not happy with. They would behave the same way no matter who was in office. That said, they have...

What are you ER2 fellows doing...

ZB ES NQ occasionally ZG/EC/QM. hopefully another contract similar to ER2 will come along via globex. love that contract, but ICE will kill its volume.

    Your Optimal VP Picks?

Hillary doesn't want it now I believe. She wants BO to lose, so she would be the favorite in 2012. She won't say this in public of course, but I bet she is at home with Bill, rooting for Mac on election night.

    Best U.S. index to trade?

bang for buck is definitely ER2, unfortunately. T-bonds are good too, but trade differently. i'd say join the crowd in ES. massively liquid, and moves well, although not like the freight train that is ER2. NQ is OK as well.

Inflation in U.S. Highest Since 1981; Fed Not Expected to Raise Rates

No, not the election. They've been fudging numbers for quite some time. President doesn't control these numbers anyway.

    trading a big(ger) account

going from 5 to 30 shouldn't mean too much on fills in ES, unless you are trading slow volume times. ER2 is going to die on the vine on ICE. damn shame. talk about bang for your buck! Hopefully, CME will introduce something comparable that has volume.

Inflation in U.S. Highest Since 1981; Fed Not Expected to Raise Rates

bingo. Also, final GDP for 4th Q, 2007 is now negative, not even taking "real" GDP into account. most economists (worthless as a group BTW), now believe 1st and 2nd qtr GDP's will be revised to negative as well, even with the stimulus. regardless of your definition of recession, the economy...

    Your Optimal VP Picks?

Obama - tim kaine. its his best shot at Virginia, which would be a brutal blow to Mac. kaine is also a very likable guy, and seen as "new" also. i believe putting an old experienced guy on the ticket would be counter productive to BO. he is all about "change". Mac - my first pick is Ridge...

Senate to end preferential tax for commodities?

Actually many countries no longer tax cap gains, or have very low rates. As you state, it is double taxation and counter productive. At least leave the rates low. Since the 80's, when ever rates were raised, revenue dropped. Significantly, and at a rate that could not be explained away by...

    ES Journal Archive (2006 - 2008)

why is that a puzzle? correlation of dollar strength and index strength isn't all that great. If something else is causing the dollar to rocket/collapse, then that is a different issue, but minor fluctuations don't mean much.

    The Price Action Journal

Yes, but the amount of risk taken is completely different between pure day traders and swing traders. I bet most day traders, myself included, are just not willing to take the extra overnight risk, even if it does mean a larger payday on the winners. I hardly risk anything per trade, and just...

Senate to end preferential tax for commodities?

Yeah, I forgot how it came to be in the first place. Enlighten me? I have seen members of congress try to kill it off a few times, only to have the exchanges start screaming with their Illinois representatives in tow. Something about how they would lose biz to foreign exchanges. I'm not so...

Senate to end preferential tax for commodities?

That is why I put the question marks in there. Parts of the article alluded to all 1256 contracts. I was wondering if anyone knew if all futures traders would be affected.

    I'm voting for McCain

You are one dumb racist asshole! I never even hinted at ANYTHING racial, you did. And now when I point that out, you say it had to be racial cause she is black. I told you WHY Obama scares me in my original post. I don't believe anything he says cause he keeps changing his line over...

    go Barrack Obama

The following stats support what I meant when when I stated that the rich already pay more than their fair share. Certain individuals obviously find ways around paying. It is a major reason why the Laffer Curve exists (higher taxes often yield lower revenues, depending on the level of the...

When Paul Tudor Jones was a rookie...

he jumped into the cotton pit, immediately made several hundred (maybe it was several thousand) percent profit, lost about 80% of that just as quick, but figured, hey, I still have a great return! he then managed a fairly small fund by current standards, and was notorious for pushing the...

    I'm voting for McCain

By the way, I think Limbaugh is a nut case. You are probably also assuming I am a neocon cause I don't like the Obamas. I'm not even Republican. I don't like either candidate. I just fear what Obama could do more than McCain. I believe we need a third Party, and a brand new Congress. Kick...
