    Tick Charts vs. Time Charts

Andy - Normal definitions - a "tick" chart shows each tick (trade), usually plot in as a moving line chart and perhaps with the active bid/ask also overlayed. A "tickbar" chart (what some people have been calling a "tick" chart) builds the bars based on the open/high/low/close/volume of...

    Emini Pivot Points

For old style pivots, just get the open, high, low, and settlement price from the CME. However, after comparing the older pivots to other S/R methods for quite a while, the most interesting thing I find is that while pivots might still be usable enough for some folks to get by, just when you...

    Always in Trading

I agree with illiquid - the presumption that you MUST always be "in" is invalid. It might work great if you've got a system that can fairly accurately pick tops and bottoms of swings in whatever timeframe you're trading. But generally, presuming that you must take the reverse position when...

To Qcharts Users: Who do you use for a backup charting and datafeed?

InTheZone - Take a look at myTrack and DTN.iq as possible backups. Prices are reasonable without having to pay for a whole year up front like eSignal does in order to get their pricing competitive.

Best software for a large number of charts?

birgulino, Isn't he talking about a 15" diagonal monitor - so around 10"x12" or so?? 12 charts arranged 4 across and 3 high would be about 3" square each - still kind of small for my taste (I prefer the larger format available on dual 19" monitors), but to each his/her own.

what's so good about Trade Prospector?

Lightning, Short answer - yes. Long answer - you can see the next day's S/Rs either on a summary panel or automatically drawn on your intraday charts (they post some chart examples in their nightly market commentary - http://www.3mtinc.com/notes.htm )

Anyone else find Q charts useless this morning?

QCharts results seem to vary a lot from user to user. Some apparently have a lot of trouble while others hardly any. I encounter few problems but usually when there is one it's resolved by switching servers or sometimes switching to a different location (i.e., Sterling instead of Boston)...

    Margin Question

Per the CBOE margin manual - here's the minimum margin requirements (your broker may require higher): Initial and maintenance margin are the same - 100% of option proceeds/market value plus 15% of underlying broad based index value (or 20% of underlying stock or narrow based index) less out...

    Fun with Fibonacci!

Something to consider though - the Fibs aren't markedly different from the simple 1/8ths that Gann promoted .375 vs. .382 .625 vs. .618 .75 vs. .786 etc. Since neither always produce exact results and the margin of difference is pretty small, who's to say which (if either) is the more...

    Option Calculators

dojistar - if all you need is simple IV and greek calcs, the CBOE calculator should work - http://www.cboe.com/TradTool/OptionCalculator.asp There are also some option calculators at http://www.axone.ch/JavaCalculators.htm If you need more than the basics, there's software from...

    supprot & resistance web site

Don't know of any website where you can plug in a whole portfolio and get the numbers, but barchart.com has what they call a "projections" diagram that summarizes a bunch of price levels including pivots, some fibos, etc. for individual stocks - here's a sample link...

    Opinion on Max Pain Levels?

Max pain (also called minimum outstanding expiration value) shows some validity as long as the underlying's price is within a reasonable distance of the minimum valuation target. It doesn't work universally. Some people think it's like a gravity point that prices will always tend to - except...

    KingCambo.com -- chatroom

Simba - funny, I just ran a search on Kingcambo and came up with your ad for it a while back. So obviously doing a search DOES find something - but it just finds your earlier post about it which is quite similar to your recent one - apparently no one's interested in it though

    Software for Elliott wave analysis

"Best" software (especially when it comes to S&C's software reviews) doesn't mean it'll help you make a dime. You've got to go some just to buy into EWs in the first place. Especially when even those using them warn you that you can't just trust the computer's "count" and many of the gurus...

    state income tax

I'll throw in a plug for Chicago. Having worked and lived in CA, DC, TX, and NYC, Chicago's the best balance I've found: Big city venues and features - and unlike NYC it's clean Lots of different city neighborhoods and suburbs to choose from depending on your preferred lifestyle and...

    Delta for QQQ options

The QQQ trades at 1/40th the NDX. So essentially 100 shares of QQQ changes $2.50 for each point change of the NDX. The NQ changes $20 for each point change of the NDX. So you get 800 QQQ as roughly equivalent to 1 NQ. So if you're going delta adjusted, you'd need to divide the delta of the...

    Claculating S/R in Excel

You can calculate pivot points from end of day daily OHLC data - if that's what you want to call S/Rs. Plug in a search and you should come up with the formulas. Whether you'll find the old pivots of any use anymore is whole other issue.

The recognition of the Wall St. Journal

Gee Bill (darn, I mean Vinny), I must have a different dictionary than yours. None of the definitions of "recognition" seem to include having ones unsubstantiated boasts listed in an article just so the writer can raise questions about them. If you want to call that "recognition" I guess you...
