anyone know how Mish's clients are doing?

The decoupling happens in Schiff's head only, not in reality.

New study says: Technical Analysis is garbage

There is a boatload of papers on SSRN defying the non-sense that is the Efficient Market Hypothesis. Classic TA is only one piece of the picture.

New study says: Technical Analysis is garbage

I had a similar download error in Firefox. I used IE and that let me download the PDF just fine. Maybe that helps.

I'm calling it - The Top Is In

Why not take out a mortgage on your house and place a nice big bet on the coming dollar collapse? The way you describe it would mean NOT taking on a huge bet against the dollar is leaving money on the table! Post a screenshot of your position. While you're at it, hedge the entire position...

The TARP program, and others, show why equity bears will ALWAYS fail!

But you know what lies ahead? That's why you keep averaging into losing positions and buying stuff that went down "too far" and shorting stuff that went up "too far"

    • S&P 500 Index Headed for `Stiff Correction,' AMP Says: Technical Analysis

And had Lehman not blown up we might never had fallen below 800. Who knows? You realize you locked yourself in a world of "should be trading at" and "would be trading at" rather than "is currently trading at". If you have to earn your living trading the markets you could care less WHY a...

The Credit Crisis Financial Stocks Short Journal

http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20091019-709523.html Einhorn (wasn't he a value investor? talk about style drift) now betting on higher interest rates and "currency collapses" in developed countries 4-5 years out. He highlights Japan: Einhorn said his hedge-fund firm is betting on the...

New study says: Technical Analysis is garbage

They only looked at equity markets? And what's the point of looking at 100 global equity markets when the correlations between them are 0.8-0.99? Obviously these guys are ivory tower types who had a lot of time to waste. Their analysis seems to single out absolute returns, not risk adjusted...

Countdown to the next crisis is already under way: Stock market to crash soon

Interesting take by Münchau. He argues we might be in for a long cycle of in- and deflation rather than heading towards just for one extreme condition. Long term investors blindly following either theme might be frustrated over the next 5-10 years.

The Credit Crisis Financial Stocks Short Journal

Thanks for posting. I enjoy watching his appearances. I think his fund is still down ~5% YTD after having a blowout year in 2008. Quite a humbling experience but he makes a good point his job is protecting his capital rather than blindly participating in speculation that he can't rationalize.

With every downtick in Sterling I'm getting closer to considering buying real estate in Britain. As terrible the weather may be.

ECB chief warns on ‘financial gambling’

Some things from the top of my head 1. Two Bear Stearns Hedge Funds need capital injections, then blow up (June) 2. Margan Stanley "Full House" sell signal 3. Minor bond sell off in Q1 and Q2 2007 with yields peaking around June 2007. 4. Homebuilder Index breaking the summer 2006 lows in...

Should I focus on a specific group of commodities as a novice trader?

Do you plan to trade commodities based on fundamentals/macro analysis or based on technical/mechanical analysis. Don't say "both" because that will just lead to problems later. IMO, if you want to make trades based on economic analysis then it makes sense to focus on a market, say...

    Massive market surge coming.

These references to 1999 and a giant short squeeze coming are just as misplaced as those 1987 "rising wedge leading up to a huge one-day crash" comparisons that now make the rounds on the blogs IMO. History is a guide to what CAN possibly happen but a bad tool for predicting what WILL happen...

    "The Great Depression: A Diary"

This sounds like a great read. Note the constant inflation fear mongering and the "worst is over" analysis by the experts back then. This will go in my next Amazon.com order: http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/17/business/17nocera.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&ref=business In January 1931, a...

Video: Great Depression Tent Cities in the US

I agree owning your own house (debt free) is a good way of protecting yourself against poverty. In many countries however home prices are still so much out of line with rental prices that it doesn't make any financial sense to buy. Why buy for 25, 30 or heck I've seen places offered for sale...

If you had a Million bucks in cash.....

A long term "don't touch" portfolio IMO would be something like 20% bonds (government, corporate, emerging markets, some junk) 20% equities(US 5%, EFA 5%, Emerging markets 5%, 5% short/bear fund) 20% managed futures (fund of managed futures funds, alternative LSC or RYMFX) 10% long...

If you had a Million bucks in cash.....

The whole point of investing money IMO is so you do not have to start a company. Why start a company, deal with all the hassles associated and work 100 hours a week when you don't have to?
