    Bully in the FTSE

Watching the FTSE (Euronext Z) out of the corner of my eye. Thin pre-Xmas market, usually no more than a couple dozen lots bid and offers. A few times a day someone comes in, bids or offers 100 lots a couple of ticks above or below the market. Market treats it as a barrier, bully pulls...

    X-trader 7

Just had a look at the TT website and it looks like a cosmetic/ergonomic update to version 6. Has anyone here upgraded from 6 to 7? Is it worth it?

    1% a day consistently: possible?

Two things come to mind - if I'm teaching grandpa to suck egss here feel free to say so ;-) Optimization - you need to ensure that you only ever use parameters for trading going forward which you have derived from preceding data. Out of sample testing that derives parameters from time x and...

    Do Trading Models Count?

Stephen, You make four statements. I don't want to just flatly contradict you four times because that's likely to get your back up rather than make you look in the right places. So I won't. Instead, can I suggest you take some sample data of your choice, a copy of Excel, then during a...

    Do Trading Models Count?

Not true. Test a series of random entries, 2-bar trailing stop loss, target 3 x initial risk on 10-minute bars in a reasonably liquid market. You'll see that it loses money hand over fist. Now check the same series of entries, but trade in the opposite direction each time, using the same...

    Shaolin Training?

Have you asked them? Seriously, if they want a grand they should be able to give you at least a list of bulletpoints saying what they'll cover.

    Refco Account Security

Halted again. This is a train wreck in slow motion.
  8. Q

    Refco Account Security

Do you have a source for that?

    Rfx..

That was the whole point of farming it out to an off-balance-sheet entity. $430MM in doubtful customer debt require provision. $430MM in debt from an entity with a decent credit rating don't. Sharp practice, but assigning a good credit rating to that entity was correct. It paid cash on...

    Rfx..

I'm tempted to load up on 17.50 or 20 November RFX calls. Their balance sheet is $430MM stronger today than it was yesterday and the market's reaction seems overdone. The reputational implications you mention are real, but the "shifting around of funds" was declared in their last filings -...

    ECB press conference

Different strokes for different folks - I hate this violent sideways stuff. Bund was EXACTLY in the same place before and after the press conference.
  12. Q

    ECB press conference

Something market-moving, that's what. The press conference is always good for a bit of excitement. Just compare morning and afternoon in the Bund today.

    The nature of the beast

That's (Intraday highs being sold into hard, intraday lows being bought in size) what I'm talking about. I've noticed a lot of this happening intraday the last few days and I was wondering whether the change had anything to do with the end of quarter last week, or whether there's some other...
  14. Q

    The nature of the beast

Beast being Bund. I seem to see more but smaller overshoots, as if additional paper is dampening intraday moves. Has anyone else noticed it changing in recent weeks?

    German election: Bund/Bobl/Schatz

Yeah. Bund will gap up two days in a row on growing uncertainty plus Rita becoming a cat 5. Whaddayamean I can't trade hindsight?

Help with getting started on DAX Futures

That's something I've always wondered: How DO you trade a product as volatile as the DAX intraday? Longer timeframe / institutional perspective I can understand, these guys average in over a couple of days and don't care about intraday volatility. But every time I've tested something that...

What is the FED up to today?

And having done that they'll take a Eurodollar position for pocket money just before the announcement. :)
  18. Q

So who's holding up the Bund at 122.94?

Him again. Well, that explains it.
  19. Q

So who's holding up the Bund at 122.94?

I saw the peak at 95 in the volume distribution, but what intrigued me was the persistent size bid at 94. It looked like someone was iceberging because every time it was hit for size it got topped up.
  20. Q

So who's holding up the Bund at 122.94?

94 for more than 1000, even when surrounding bid quantities are in the low hundreds. Lots of business being done at 95. ZN drop on pit open had no effect. Why 94? What's magic about it?
