How long will it take to turn a $5,000 account into $100,000?

I would think that avg of 4pt per contract per day (net) is not possible in ES (considering the extreme disadvantage in execution due to tick size). Especially the last 1.5yr with avg daily range of under 10pt. I'd be happy to hear otherwise ofcourse.

How long will it take to turn a $5,000 account into $100,000?

Contest accounts are not traded in a way that a rational investor would trade a real money account (either his own or OPM). Anyway, if you develop a tradeable edge, then indeed you can compound your account in an exponential way.

Tampa, nice to have you back! Best of luck with your trading. PS: The original journal of tampa is at http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9334 and was indeed one of the most entertaining threads on ET

Andy's Day and Position Trading Journal

I occasionally go over the threads in the Journals section (just as I go over the monthly results of hedge funds at IASG to see how various methods are doing for others), and this is one of the "cleanest" I've found. Post in realtime? So that other ET members can follow his trades? Unless we...

I also use it to derive potential S/R points. 1. Software to use for MP I use a) esignal's MP as well as b) ckryza's efs, which is based on volume (I'm not aware of a time spent @ price efs for Esignal). I understand that there are other sw out there with very good MP implementations...

I think that what you describe (shorting tick high extreme) would work regardless of where we are wrt yesterday's VA (I assume you're talking about ES VA and not $tick's "VA").

But is there is no logic in using MP on $tick ? Indeed, one needs to watch $tick when in extremes (which signify certain conditions), either via fixed levels or by BBs. But putting a value-area type distribution on it makes no sense to me. Afterall effectively it's a range-bound oscillator.

    EurexUS, will it work?

Can you quote any sources for this info. If EurexUS starts doing physical commodities, I think there are thousands of traders, esp. of NYMEX markets, who will switch to them immediately. As soon as EurexUS starts offering Russel indices, we're going to see CME fees go lower than the absurd...

    Trading with Market Profile

In addition to this thread in ET, there is a discussion group for users of Steidlmeyer's newest software CapitalFlow, but it's mostly inactive now. There is an active discussion at Reefcap forum. And some argue it's not useful at all: http://www.reefcap.com/ubb/Forum19/HTML/000034.html

Do you differentiate MP use between markets? e.g. would you apply this method the same way to ES as you would to ZN ?

    Any trader From Italy?

Can you suggest any prop shops for remote trading futures? I'm trading futures, intraday swing, with my own capital, but read about FCMs (e.g. Refco) setting up futures prop shops with very competitive commissions. So that would make some short-term strategies more interesting to me...

    Chinook's EUR/USD (E/$)Mumblings

Hi, I don't trade forex (yet, but I follow your thread to learn more, as forex is my first option to diversify away from US index futures, ES/NQ/YM which I've been trading for several years), but indeed I find scaling to be very beneficial. But a lot depends on your strategy as well...

    UK Scalpers

I haven't tried it, but I think it'd be confusing to mix trades (cancelling eachother out, partially, as different timeframe signals have different risk, resulting in different # contracts put by the 60min system vs the 1min system) of a single market, initiated from signals from many different...

Scientist: I'm not a scalper myself. My style is intraday swing, so what works for me might not work for a scalper. Re ES tick size: Agreed, ticksize in ES is a big problem. This was even more so during the 5pt ranges back in Dec-2003 - Mar-2004 and more or less ever since shrinked to ATR...

I agree, not much slippage, in addition to giving up the spread ofcourse, if you hit the bid/ask. Nevertheless, ES isn't "infinately liquid" and often there are very few, i.e. <50 contracts at best-bid/best-ask Also don't assume to have no slippage at all on ES stops. I sometimes do...
