IB does provide realtime data for singapore futures (SGXNK STW for example) which can be collected using something like Sierrachart.
If you mean stocks then they seem to only cover the US and major european exchanges. They've skipped Australia, HK and Japan as well --- maybe the interest is...
fader,
That "I lose the whole lot but make on only a portion of the bet" is a van tharp argument (ie not as good as vt thinks it is imnsho). Intuitively it feels right but as is often the case in trading our intuition may lead us to a conclusion that is statistically incorrect. Treat each...
Calling it a psychological crutch is simplistic (although it does make trading more relaxed).
If you treat each entry/exit combo as a strategy you will (assuming you have designed it well) find that all are profitable but that the combination provides a "better" equity curve than any one...
Volume on spi 12 is averaging about 7000 contracts a day. About the same as the euro during the same period and about 1/7th of the SGXNK or the HSI. FWIW :)
Wonderfully warm thoughts roberk but not even sure my legendarily smooth friend Tampa could effect a reconciliation between woodie and I :)
I think I'd have to give up the nearly free IB/Sierrachart combination for the stupidly expensive trademaven or esignal products for W to have me back...
lol. That was a very funny little exchange. Thanks for the giggle.
I hope you get your money back (under control) and suspect that you will cause IB are a pretty good bunch.
and here is a snippet from working c code:
sg.SubGraphDataOut[6][pos] = (sg.BaseDataIn[1][pos]+sg.BaseDataIn[2][pos]+sg.BaseDataIn[3][pos])/3;
if ( c>=ccilength)
{
double md1=0;
sg.SubGraphDataOut[5][pos] = sum0;
for (i=1; i<=ccilength; i++)
{
double...
It depends what you like and what type of thing you trade.
I used to trade stocks and liked quotetracker.
I now trade futures and prefer sierrachart.
But you probably need to try them and find out what seems better to you. They do different things differently/well and people seem to...
Of course you will have a little difficulty getting 6 months if the contract only has 20 days of data.
Thanks for the update, I use SierraChart and have been surprised (and pleased) by the size of updates I have been getting recently. Not trading stocks I havent seen anything like 6 months...
TWS is always down all weekend from a few hours after friday closure (not exactly sure when) until a little before globex opens on Sunday. Hmmm ... you'd think I could do better than that.

:D LOL
Sympathy to the original poster --- you have completed one of the steps to becoming a consistent trader. Have you read Mark Douglas's "The Disciplined Trader"? You might add that to the advice that you are getting on technique.
Use IB/SierraChart/NinjaTrader
Trade HSI only (+some EOD stuff while i sleep) because of its great hours (for a Queenslander).
Would also trade SGXNK, SPI if desperate, and euro, bund, estx, dax and maybe jpy if really needed something else.
First, despite a few problems with ib backfill and interface issues with various versions of TWS, IB backfill gives you a great backfill for the last 7-45 days (most I've seen so far) of data.
I create "continuous" contracts by the following process. One day before rollover (i trade very...
The poll is hardly silly ... not as silly as an "everyone must change in one month" strategy anyway. Plus, your winning - no one cares, they're just chilling out for the weekend.
The poll is a good way to create some feedback for you about the "everyone must change in one month" approach and...
IB's latest communication:
"TWS Upgrade
We have recently implemented new re-connect logic into our trading system that smoothly switches your connection between ISP providers in the case of an ISP failure. In addition, the new logic will keep track of orders in the TWS that a user tries to...
Don't forget that:
1) your reaction time is 250ms to 750ms depending on the day etc
2) ping times are normally both ways so the latency is often half the ping
3) if you use a stoplimit for your breakout it is on IBs (or whoever's) server
All things to think about.
No lag on SierraChart's Charts on my machine either (and its only an 800Mhz PIII with 384M ram).
What I like is I can now get 50 (yep 50) days of backfill on some things. Way to go IB and Sierra!
The pits are coming to IB (dying) so in time everything will be electronic and you won't be at the mercy of the occasional thieves on the floor. When you get a full service broker ask him or her which pits are dangerous and untrustworthy --- if they say none then get another broker.
Backfill is GREAT.
IB you do a bloody great job. Fast. Functional. Backfill. And cheap as chips :)
And despite peoples problems its pretty darned reliable too (my setup is NinjaTrader, SierraChart and TWS).
Have a nice weekend.
