Does anyone else here look for stocks where insiders are buying?

Recent stock purchase by the CEO of Petrohawk Energy (HK). This follows a recent purchase by Petrohawk of another company, so this guy is clearly a "player".

Where to find most recent news ?

They finally reported it several hours later on CNBC... it was an error by the NASDAQ, which was corrected later (you can see the matching down spike on the chart)... no doubt the big plateau in the chart that resulted will be used in many Technical Analyses later to justify something or other...

Where to find most recent news ?

At 1:56 pm EDT there was a big spike up on the NASDAQ. Nothing at all on CNBC - if we are lucky, they might talk about it tomorrow afternoon. :) Is there a web site or other source that would report the sort of news that might cause this ? PS I realize that this particular spike might...

    Cheap stocks don't go up

There's a couple of problems with that. First, I'm not referring to Warren Buffet-style very long-term investing (probably I should have been more specific that I am referring to a 6-24 month period). Second, I don't think historical (i.e. pre-21st Century) data has very much relevance to...

    Cramer unbelievable "caught on tape"

I think many people are taking this the wrong way. Cramer has said many times in the past that he regrets many aspects of his life in his hedge fund days. He has even testified against crooked market activities. When I viewed the video, I saw it as Cramer revealing some of the...

    Cheap stocks don't go up

It's not quite that simple. I've often made money buying popular quality stocks when they are sold off after a poor quarter. A good example is Intel, which I bought during the summer at 17.69 after a poor quarter and it went up to 22 in a few months. What I am more saying is that there...

    Cheap stocks don't go up

If we apply what I am saying to the Energy sector, then there are some stocks that go up more than others - not because of value or fundamentals. I don't know enough about Energy stocks to know where Valero falls...

    Cheap stocks don't go up

You can make money watching CNBC, but certainly not by believing anything that is said there. You can make money buying stocks that are mentioned and then selling them 15 minutes later. Anything mentioned by Faber as an M&A target works well. But back to the thread.... GOOG, APPL, and...

Any stats on # of gaps up vs # of gaps down ??

Sorry, yes, I forgot to mention that I am referring equities (stocks), either indices or individual stocks. Although information on any instrument might be interesting - I look at these things from a viewpoint of "behavioral finance", ie ways in which human nature affects the action of...

    Cheap stocks don't go up

There seems to be certain stocks that are "liked" and other stocks that are "disliked" and this trumps any fundmental, financial analysis of the company's business prospects. Over the past 6 months, I've made a point of buying a number of stocks with very good business prospects (earnings...

Any stats on # of gaps up vs # of gaps down ??

Thanks, but I was more interested in what the number is, in general. Intuition might say that they should be of equal number, but perhaps for some reason there tends to be more gap ups than downs, or else vice versa. Sounds like something someone in a University might have researched.

Any stats on # of gaps up vs # of gaps down ??

Has anyone ever done any statistical analysis of whether gaps up occur more or less often than gaps down ?

What is happening with BRLC ?

From reading your thread on the REG SHO list, it would seem that one is not allowed to short BRLC. But I recently see moves that seem to be from shorting. Is this just further illegal naked shorting ?

What is happening with BRLC ?

What would cause the short shares to have to cover ? Does this not happen simply because they are actually naked shorts ?

What is happening with BRLC ?

So what do people think is determining the price of this stock? It doesn't seem to follow the overall market...

Risk is not the same as a real problem

I keep hearing "stock prices must go down because of risk", which makes no sense at all. What that is saying is the following: - XYZ Corp stock price with no risk = $25 - XYZ Corp stock price with risk = $20 now - for mathematical clarity - assume all other factors remain constant for...
