How's Tim Sykes making more money selling alerts than trading?

His strategy isn't the most scalable one since it involves more thinly-traded stocks which can be difficult to locate shares to short sell. It's best used for smaller-sized accounts so isn't as attractive for hedge funds or those with large accounts. Also he is a very gifted marketer.

    Scanners - Anyone using/used MadScan??

If you're looking for customizability maybe give StockVision a try.

    scanning and screening software

StockVision would be perfect for indicator-based scans like that, but it currently has scans only on the daily chart and many intraday time frames. I guess it's better for shorter-term traders, but it would be cool if they add in the weekly and monthly sometime.

QuoteTracker To Be Finished End of 2011

Does any of the other software have a similar kind of portfolio window where you can manually type in 'ghost' positions with the Qty of shares, the price Paid, and it will then show the Gain %? Also, which software has the most similar type of thing to Quotetracker's paintbar alerts? Thanks.

    Trading Groups.

I think some people in the StockVision chat room group use Skype sometimes. That's just for equities primarily.

    Delisted stk

Good question. Also, does anyone know if there is a place that lists all of the stocks that are currently halted?

Determining what a trading system is worth

Do you include any bear ETFs in the basket to hedge against market downturns? Or if not, wouldn't the basket trading not do too well in bearish periods?

1% profit daily with without risk. Company name?

I think you can only get returns like that pretty consistently using relatively small amounts of money (and even then, of course there are risks). It wouldn't be offered to the public like that unless it were a scam.

Determining what a trading system is worth

It's just equities - primarily those with a market cap between $500 million and $3 billion. The contract ratio would be zero because it doesn't involve any contracts.

Determining what a trading system is worth

It's an active trading system that I've been forward-testing for the last 31 months. The main advantages are the profit factor, sharpe ratio, and maximum drawdown. Overall it has averaged about 30% profit per month with an annualized sharpe ratio of 6.75 (or if looked at on a daily basis, over...

Determining what a trading system is worth

I was wondering if valuing a trading system is highly subjective or if there are objective valuation techniques commonly used in the industry for determining how much to sell or buy a trading system for. For those who have had experience with developing and selling a highly-effective trading...

I see where they got the 60.40 level from, but wouldn't it make a lot more sense to just wait until RIG was holding above 60.50 for a bit considering that was right at the pivot point level as well as Friday's high?

    SOLR for solar energy stocks

SOL might be another one to watch in the coming days. It made a very nice move this morning. You might want to wait for a pullback though since it is looking pretty short-term over-extended. A move up to 13.00 soon seems increasingly plausible.

    online training course

If you are new to trading, definitely take a look at the free Basics of Trading course at InformedTrades. I'm not too big of a fan of paying money for individual trading courses. You never know how useful and up-to-date that information will be. I think it can be a lot more helpful to simply...

    UNG bankruptcy

Aside from how often UNG has been frustrating long-term investors the last few years, it might actually be close to finally finding a bottom (at least a short-term one) in the 6.00s. Thursday's rally and volume make UNG look a lot more bullish. Buyers definitely need to be extremely careful...

Quotetracker - Ameritrade wants to kill it

Good idea, that would be a really useful feature for them to add. I currently use StockVision along with QT for real-time scans for volume spikes and fast moves.

    Smb

You might receive more feedback if you re-post in another sub-forum. SMB isn't a retail firm. It is a proprietary trading firm (which also sells trading education stuff). I like the information they offer for free, but I haven't yet felt inclined to buy their paid stuff. They do appear to...

    Advice for novice trader

Based on what you described I'd probably look into swing trading stocks (maybe 1-5 day holds). PnL = profit & loss

how to get funds to trade but a few problems

It would probably be a good idea to open a paper trading account at a broker and establish a track record trading your strategy that you can then show to potential business partners (perhaps with the symbols or some other part of the records blacked out).
