Gotta love ZERO RISK in the SP500 = $$$

Just buy tech on the dips, look at the Nasdaq go! There seems to be an unlimited demand for stocks in the USA, the market is almost up 20%YTD so even if we had a serious pull back it only takes a few months for you to make it back.

    7 Figure traders

Yes I would agree, I was responding to one of the benefits of prop firms is it allows traders the ability to do these types of strategies that are arb based since it provides leverage. People reading these threads should understand the firms exist for a reason but never think they will just...

    7 Figure traders

That is not true at all, and your missing a fundamental point where I could buy the 500 S&P 500 underlying stocks and replicate the index while shorting the futures for a hedge and the basis risk is almost zero. If I did this as 20X and then only had a difference of one name that repeated .5% of...

    7 Figure traders

This is also not accurate, if you have a strategy where you put on 400 individual names equally long short and hedging sector risk holding nothing overnight is less risk than being 2 or 3x leverage holding overnight in concentrated positions.

    7 Figure traders

This isnt entirely accurate, the part about how they wouldn't sell strategies is very true but why they would stay at a prop firm there are many reasons. I worked at a prop firm and saw multiple traders who made 7 figures and stayed. Reasons: - Lower commission agreements due to size of prop...

The 'Great Bull' market is 'dead,' and here's what's next, Bank of America predicts

This bull market will continue for a lot longer, you have central banks printing money to buy stocks and a president that it took 3 minutes after the market open to tweet about how the S&P500 made a new all time high. If politicians and central bankers both want asset price inflation and stocks...

The SPX has hit a cyclical top

It is amazing though that we are approaching 10 years without a bear market in the USA, you could be mid 30's, 10 years in the market and incredible performance based purely on being biased long and a little leverage or tech. Working at a financial company this does make you question back tests...

Study: why the stock market's volatility will increase

One interesting this is the 1yr average return of ~6% is actually less than the historical annualized return of the S&P which means it probably is a bearish sign contrary to the article stating otherwise.

A spike in 10-year Treasury yields could trigger a financial crisis to rival the Great Depression

The difference though is those countries with high inflation had large amounts of foreign denominated debt. Bridgewater did research finding that countries with locally priced debt was able to much more gradually accumulate the government debt without causing problems similar to venezuela et al...

The SPX has hit a cyclical top

Honestly, buy stocks, this market is only going up and any sell off will result in Trump caving and instituting policies to push things up or the fed intervening. Aside from a quick 2-3% sell off risk there seems to be nothing that can scare the US market. I think it is important to consider we...

A spike in 10-year Treasury yields could trigger a financial crisis to rival the Great Depression

I cant imagine a situation where the USA ever defaults like that, look at Japan the central bank just prints and purchases the entire market. This is by no means a healthy situation but politically the easiest which tends to be what is done.

Have overall corporate profits ever had a sustained decline?

Looking at the rapid rise in earnings over the last 8 years and rally in stocks I am beginning to question any type of economic cycle. Has there ever been a period of sustained decline in corporate profits? Through this recovery wage growth has been fairly low and margins have expanded but was...

    Study Journal, all welcome

Mathematics and Statistics for Financial Risk Management (Wiley Finance) by Michael Miller is another great book and has practice questions too if someone is trying the learn. The first few chapters are very basic but a nice foundational book.

Will SPY hit 146 or 138 first?

I vote 146, post election rally and due to some rally as a result of fiscal cliff getting resolved. When I say "resolved" I mean kicked down the road a year or two.

    simple program

Microsoft excel I have found to be the most user friendly way to create your own basic programs. I think a lot of platforms can be accessed using VBA to calculate and activex to trade. I think interactive brokers can, the spreadsheet they provide also has a lot of code you can learn from to do...
