Oh, I thought you were referring to Agent Orange.

    God Bless Averaging Up

Say you could automate some of the drudgery of your approach. What features would you be looking for to make it easier to add and take off positions and manage stops? Sorry for the obviously loaded question. I'm a software guy and have written my own custom apps for the IB API. I'm...

    Hyper inflation

Read "Conquer the Crash" by Robert Prechter. Lots of ideas on hedging against an economic crisis.

    God Bless Averaging Up

Sorry I was editing my previous post when you replied. Do you add at fixed intervals, or discretionary based on "good" price action? Do you start trailing immediately for each point in your favor, or trail in jumps?

    God Bless Averaging Up

Hi there neet. If you've built a position up with 20-30 contracts, each with its own stop, do you trail them by hand or let the platform trail them for you? Or use some kind of custom automation to do it? I don't trade futures yet but I'm looking at trying this technique on Oanda for...

    Oanda outage since Friday

Yup, the old adage to "diversify your portfolio" is applicable in other areas besides stock portfolios. It's very tempting to painstakingly search for the perfect broker and put all of your money there. But I've met several traders who have accounts at several brokerages and move it around...

How many Points do you use for Stop Loss when trading the YM emini futures ??

Nah. It's too small to reasonably trade with. You'd certainly blow it because it doesn't scale well to proper position sizing. May as well just blow it on a vacation. Paper trade until you have a system that works for you. Then start trading with enough capital that you can set your max...

How many Points do you use for Stop Loss when trading the YM emini futures ??

You need to read Van Tharp's book "Trade your way to financial freedom" Silly title, yes. But the book explores trading system development with a definite emphasis on position sizing. Basically you should be doing the following: 1) Deciding up front what your max risk % is. Typically...

Spydertrader's Jack Hershey Futures Trading Journal

Hi everyone, I'm back after a "hershey hiatus" making money by other methods. My methods were more akin to investing than trading, though my time frame was fairly short-term. Basically I was taking the "best of the best" from the stocktables.com site and buying them. Needless to say the...

    Maybe FORGET VISTA Altogether?

Admittedly it's hard getting used to Linux environments after years of MS immersion. But since MS hates Linux so much it must be good, right?

    Lying On Your Resume

My brother in law lied about graduating college and landed a good job at a bank. When they finally got around to actually checking his college transcript and found he never graduated, he was fired instantly. Poof. Crazy part is he was literally like 4 courses from finishing. Fecking loser.

    Maybe FORGET VISTA Altogether?

I've been giving serious thought to switching my trading platform to Linux. My favorite trading platforms work under Linux and my API development is portable to Linux. I'm hard-pressed to come up with real reasons to even dual-boot Windows. What apps do I really need Windows for? Maybe...

    Trading stocks on unsual volumes

You beat me to it, Jack. I use Jack's correlation table in addition to using QuoteTracker with IB data. I sort my watchlist according to "vol %" to get unusual volume. At any point during the day I can see if the volume is unusually high for that time of day based on the table Jack posted...

    Jury Duty

A prick, maybe, but certainly not a f&ck. I'm planning on not being the US when the sh1t inevitably hits the fan with our crappy economy.

    Jury Duty

If you're an engineer, make sure they know. Lawyers absolutely *hate* engineers. They think and analyze way too much. Lawyers just looooooove housewives, and others who are more swayed by emotional arguments. (I'm currently in a ducked position so-as to avoid the inevitable thrown frying pan.)

Shifting Bubbles: What Will The Next Bubble Be?

China. Barbers giving stock tips. Grandmothers day trading. Borrowing money on credit cards to buy stock. Hockey stick stock trends. Sound familiar? Well it's happening in China right now. Watch out below. Wall Street Journal article
