Do you pay Health Insurance out of your profits?

I posted a few months ago that I pay $46.00 per month for major medical coverage. Obviously, I dont have family concerns to worry about, and I empathize with people who have these $500+ per month bills. I had not realized the crisis in health insurance for self employed individuals until I...

Warning: Matrox Parhelia & Millenium P750 cards

yes, you are correct about the Parhelia. I had one installed on my pc last year and then connected the three monitors and had that bs stretched mode. It was not what I bargained for. So, now I just use it as a dual monitor card, an expensive one at that. I had another pc configured with a...

    August: Seasonally Weak?

FWIW, if you noticed the ES ran smack dab into resistance at the highest daily close of 1009.50. The clerk error rumor was a convenient way of discounting the selling pressure off the highs. First time in about 2 weeks that I have felt sellers return to the markets short term...

    Historic VIX

Its probably just a question of semantics. On a relative basis, yeah this is very low considering the fundamental risks in this market, especially in light of the bond markets collapse. But, again, this is part of the seasonal cycle as the stats I posted above indicate. Volatility is...

    Historic VIX

    I posted these stats last year around this time regarding the seasonal volatility cycle in VIX. 2002: VIX(L) 30.46(8/22/02) VIX(H) 46.29(10/10/02) +49.52% 2001: VIX(L) 22.44(8/27/01) VIX(H) 57.13(9/21/01) +155.39% 2000: VIX(L) 23.11(8/28/00) VIX(H) 30.82(10/13/00) +69.06% 1999...

Where to "Park" a decent sum of cash?

The even bigger issue is that the better hedge funds with long established records of success require such steep minimum investments that its prohibitive for most people...

S&P looks good to a new high

IMHO, this market is very similar to the market we had last December. The volume, structure, lack of momentum, etc are very similar to what we saw in the middle to end of December, just prior to the false break higher in early-mid January. Case in point, two weeks ago the SPX broke lower...

    IB Options margin question

I may be mistaken here, but from my experience, the SPAN applied to futures index options, not cash index options. I have always found that the cash index options have fallen under that simple formula of 15% x value of cash index less proceeds. Either way, I was going to suggest to...

    A Comment On Intraday Charts

First off, its good to see OldTrader back. His posts are always articulate and informative and the discussion is great. I understand both his argument, as well as the rebuttal by a few of the other traders. The daily reduces the "noise" to some extent and identifies good trade "location"...

    Beating Larry Williams record II

DT-Waw: you should be commended for bringing this old thread back to life. This thread is so old that I got an e-mail notification of another post. I stopped the e-mail enabling probably around April, 2002...lol... I remember January, 2003 was the launch date. Seems everyone forget...

    S&P 987 Resistance

Like yourself I felt 986-987 represented a prime shorting area for the intermediate term. 50 day ma, all the intermediate term ma;s 10,20, etc sloping downward. Also the .618 retrace of this previous swing from 1004-958. Well it appears the "push" was higher into the close, and the fact that...

    Most Liquid Indes Options

But my vote goes to QQQ. I had traded OEX since 1997-98 and have basically abandoned that index unless there is some exceptional opportunity that I am willing to sit on for a period of time. Depends on what you are looking to do with the options as well. But I think the QQQ is solid because...

Mental Ceilings and self fulfilling prophesies

I think you would need cleaner markets to actually realize something larger than what you consider a very small edge. The ES is not a clean market. Thus, most people decide to reduce their profit expectations in order to avoid all of the giveback on open positions. Unless, you have a very...

    IB disconnected many times

depending on how much volume you do, trying to rationalize tripling your commissions based on, perhaps one anomaly, does not make good business sense. You would be well advised to simply try to offset your system crashes with ETF's like spyders or qqq's instead.

Is daytrading easier now than a year ago?

I think last summer had more "residual momentum" on an intra-day basis. In other words, a break of minor/major S/R had more follow thru and traded "cleaner". I also think the selling, up until july 24th, was more "natural selling",which combined with program trading created this momentum...

Will the real Todd Harrison please stand up...

I forgot my password a few months ago when I cleared the cookies off of the pc. Never spent much time trying to figure out what the p-word was after that. I think that toddo was good in small doses, but he has taken on a gargantuan task. Its almost like being the host of a late night talk...
