    Understanding Depth

A few thoughts -- 1. Major traders will qoute for size, as they can double up on it and push the market. It also tells them which way the real players are trading. Simple. 2. If you dont believe in the bids/offers you see, fade them. I do that on Russell & Midcaps all the time. You'd be...

In 1980, employees were bused into the city, ferried in and senior execs had hotel rooms. I wouldnt call the market DOA yet!

Why is it that ALL brokers do not understand true latency?

How many lots do you trade a day? And how many "non-fills" do you get?

Why is it that ALL brokers do not understand true latency?

This is a goofy discussion without saying who the broker is and what your latency time is. Please give us facts so a reader can see if you're serious. Thanks.

energy prices rigged by futures trading

silk-- A few weeks ago there was a multi-dollar spread between cash nat gas and nearby futures contract. Why didnt you step in buy the cash, sell the future and pocket the spread? Or didnt you know that? As for the gold bugs whining endlessly about market manipulation between the Fed...

    Cost Of Carry of Oil

What months do you mean? If you want to arb it, find another market where the opposite is true and basically you borrow money from one market and lend it to the other, putting the spread in your pocket.

Stanford MBA vs Berkeley Financial Engineering

You are wrong, yet again. The income potential everyone points to for indy traders is very illusory because one blowup, one accident etc and your indy career is gonzo. At a top tier firm, you can make a few mistakes and you'll still be OK, get hurt in a car accident and you still have a real...

Stanford MBA vs Berkeley Financial Engineering

You need to keep in mind though, that the markets will always be there, but your ability, time etc to get a great education may not. Get the education, if you can.

What posts make the true old pros laugh?

IMHO, I get more of a grimace than a smile when I read the cascade of bad advice that flows on these boards from folks who have little or no experience or views of the world that are rooted in going to trade shows and blindly repeating what some snake oil salesmen has told them.

Anyone know if they are breaking those Silver trades

Keep in mind that when the Dow dropped 500 points that day, people were stunned. There was serious talk by serious people of major brokers not honoring trades and major banks trying to figure out what their exposure to each other was, before trading anything in Asia that night etc etc. People...

    Esignal massively lagging today

esignal sucked BIG time today - you should email your sales rep and tell them how pissed you are, how it cost you money and ask if esignal will increase their bandwidth to deal with data surges like today. If any esignal folks read this, why dont you act like adults and respond with some...

Stanford MBA vs Berkeley Financial Engineering

Not really. Good education from a solid school with a good rep is invaluable. Theres also no guarantee that he wont get fired today and lose his margin account by zigging when he should zag. For all the cowboys on this site who claim to make millions, yet find time to endlessly post here, I...

Anyone know if they are breaking those Silver trades

You put your money down, you play the game. In 1987 meltdorn, Nikkei was offered at 500, with no takers for about 5 minutes. Yesterday the various gold/silver were trading like crazy. Was a great day. Hopefully gold wont tank back to 275 and go back to sleep for 20 years though
