Any Commission Free Mutual Funds on IB?

They don't have many, certainly compared of most retail brokers, but last I checked, all the ones they offered were no load funds because their system didn't support charging you the loads. I think you had to pay a $15 commission each way to IB.

has anyone factored in exposure fee when filing taxes.. the obnoxious fee which IB charges

Business expense if you're an active trader would be easiest. If you think it's mainly due to your naked options, maybe add it to the basis on a per contract basis for all the trades over the year? Some expenses are capitalized into basis, like short dividend expenses for shorter term trades...

Mirror trades, Russia, Money Laundering, Rogue Trader

I didn't find a clear explanation of the way they were moving cash, but my best guess is the bank was deliberately marking up the Russian side and marking down the USD side so the money, less their fees, ended up in the USD account. Just being long in one current and short the same stock in...

Did IB's interest rate go up?

I was able to confirm that it was this way at least 6 months ago, so maybe it's just your recollection? Fed Funds did go up, from around 0.15% (in the "0-0.25% range") to recently 0.40% (in the "0.25-0.50% range"). Maybe that accounts for the higher rate you're seeing?

SEC pilot program for tick size on penny stocks?

Gee, if you make stocks $1 wide, I bet there would be plenty of liquidity offered on both sides. This is no different, and will find what the market makers wanted to be found - more liquidity (for those not caring about liquidity at a good price) and more profits for them. In the meanwhile...

How do I 'sell' an investment strategy?

Trade it as a long/short trade vs SPY / ES futures. That should take the risk way down and may help you see how good or how lucky the piece that's left is.

turning many Short Term Sales into long term capital gains

So you're right on 70% of your trades? Congrats. Wash sales only apply to losses. If I recall there were several different ways to adjust the holding period for wash sales, one based on the original date where it just counted total time passed, another where it only counted days while you...

    Interactive Brokers Implements Price Caps

I periodically run into these caps and they definitely cost me profits when I am unable to trade aggressively and am being "protected". I seek out situations where the value of a stock has changed a lot because of news or whatever, so I run into these more than many I expect. I would happily...

Broker's wash sales not calculated correctly

It's not just annoying - brokers can make mistakes and erroneously show wash sales where none exist, and thereby increase your tax liability in excess of your actual net profit. For example, a disallowed loss might not be added to a subsequent wash trade and be lost. I found an example of this...

IB TWS : Getting a quote panel and axis scale for secondary series

Mouse over the main series at the time you want and a pop up will show the values of all the series at that point. I forget if there's a setting to do this - it used to be the box where the values appeared as static, now it kinda floats around depending on where your cursor is. I liked the old...

Anyone getting new margin requirements at IB due to "Valuation Uncertainty"??

I didn't see any issue this morning. Anyone else?

Anyone getting new margin requirements at IB due to "Valuation Uncertainty"??

I'll start my software before that tomorrow and will watch for that or any other error. Sometimes when their risk dept implements some new more conservative rule, they miss some edge cases and you have to point those out so they can get fixed.

Anyone getting new margin requirements at IB due to "Valuation Uncertainty"??

I didn't see the error, but I had all my opening GTC orders canceled last night or early this morning, and with no obvious change in my available cash/liquidity. Annoying.

    IB leveraged forex, uh what?

Anyone know why / if TD Ameritrade would be effected similarly to IB? They have a brokerage business as well as FX.

    IB leveraged forex, uh what?

10M in assets means assets, not assets net of liabilities, and hence includes leveraged positions. If they meant 5-10M in net worth, perhaps exclusive of your home equity, they would have written that just like they did for the accredited investor standard...

    IB leveraged forex, uh what?

I don't see what the problem is. 7 USC 1(a)(18)(A)(xi) makes if clear you are eligible if you invest $10M sometimes or $5M while thinking about maybe hedging. So with the leverage you can still currently get on FX, maybe you only need a $50-100k forex trading account to meet the official...

    HFT in 2016 and beyond

The harder it gets, the more a team effort is needed to do the work of finding and trading some inefficiency, the more of the gains tend to accrue to the senior management and the less to the individual employees. If you can't say to your boss, "fine, I'll rent a seat and trade it myself if you...

For those of you who haven't already discovered IEX/colocation...

They want to use NMS to force their "speed bump" on the whole market, and then sell you a speeding waiver if you use their smart router. Just another rent-seeker trying to make a buck by making the market worse, dressed up as usual with some feel good marketing.

    HFT tax = Cleaner Trends?

Vanguard's cost of execution fell by 2/3 in recent years and they attribute this to HFT competition narrowing spreads and providing liquidity. But since you don't believe me, hopefully you'll believe Vanguard's CEO and the CIO when they say HFT has been very good for their investors...
