Whats useful and not useful in technical analysis

Some indicators or MA have more value than others just from the fact that they are popular and more people use them. Like the 50 or 200 SMA.

those are just excuses- you are you and no one knows you better than you yourself. Other traders are not going to replenish your account for your losses. One other thing this strategy ( stopping at a fixed loss) will do is that eventually there will come a period oftime when your primary...

    Weinstein Trading and Fading

You just need to stop trading for the day once $x amount in loss is accrued- that's what you did last month one or two big losing days and trying all month to crawl out of the crater with ant legs. If you got ant legs make sure the hole you are in isn't big enough that one day you can't crawl...

    Winning & losing trades

I used to take 1/2 off at target and let rest ride with a breakeven stop and the last exit was always the most profitable and the longest-sometimes lasting as long as 3 hours. The losses( stops or discretionary exits) are over with inan avg of half hour. Winners take almost 45 mins- hour to...

POLL: Are you troubled more by losing trades or decent moves missed by your method?

+1. :) That and you get choice between 2 stocks and you pick"better" setup only to find the one u didn't pick was the runner.

    Winning & losing trades

Probably depends more on strategy- but after 4-5 years you will know if you are holding a loser long before your stop gets hit :) holding onto winners is also very hard when you begin trading- easier said than done cause you don't want to give back on a winner when you get one.

    NoDoji's Day Trading Log

I just can't find words to describe how true your last post is-to quote an example that's firmly embedded in my head and my journal- CTSH was trading around $74-75 back in 2007 and I decided to short 200 shares it rallied all the way up another 5-6$ and I kept on adding every $2 and finally...

For some of the guys who have been around a while

Predictions predictions contradictions .... Is a stupid game to play. Trade what you see not what you think. That guy on fastmoney on cnbc was saying a week back he bought FCX at 78 and yesterday he was saying he didn't think it was going any lower with copper at $3.4, guess what he is down...

    Visa

Why would u want to hold visa for 20 years? It's big cap so don't really expect it to appreciate 20 fold- it pays . 6% dividend - doubt that would grow by much- if instead u hold a co paying 3 or 4 % div in 20 years u can at least gather that 80 % or cumulative would be more market is coming...

Where are you parking your savings ?

good luck Nice market retracement_ I think it has more to this downside leg--but you can take this time to narrow down your list of dividend paying stocks. Thats what I am doing for the extra $$ that I have generated for last few months

    Weinstein Trading and Fading

To me one of the best privileges of daytrading is you start fresh everyday- doesn't matter a gap up or down- everyday presents opportunities It's actually funny to see other people's faces( people who know I am a daytrder) when they ask where the market is going and I say" I don't know" to...

    Weinstein Trading and Fading

Hi Robert Ever thought of your max loss for the day? Mine is $1000. But I make more than that on most days so even if I have a couple of bad days it s still is ok for me. What really used to kill me earlier was when my avg day used to be about $500 and my loss for the day would be between...

    Am I reading GOOG right?

Oh the pain of long term capital gains vs short term capital gains - what a time for market to turn. Most people didnt buy until June-August for this rally.
