    Trader P/L 2006

Interesting thread. I didn't read the original thread yet. A couple of questions: - Is this only for equities traders? It seems like the majority are in equities. - What is the benefit of posting your P&L? What is the drawback? Just curious. If this isn't the right place to post...

    FOMC minutes..

I subscribe to both TTN and Need To Know News. NTKN is much more concise, timely and accurate than TTN for news releases. I mainly use NTKN's futures channel (they have both equities and futures coverage). I only switch NTKN to equities when I need confirmation on some equities announcement...

    Believe in yourself

Good post. We are in charge of more than we think we are.

GM..Dead cat bounce or are we at bottom?

Define what would work as a reversal for your trading style and trade it. At this point, I don't see all the negative news having been discounted in the stock's price. I am not an expert on longterm stuff, but I doubt you want to pick a bottom on this one just yet. :)

    IB bug

Did you have a position in it that closed today? If so, it will keep coming back until it clears the system overnight, I think. Good luck.

    Wireless Problem

Try disabling and then re-enabling your wireless card. Check the settings on it and set everything to default. Also, make sure you are running with the latest drivers for the wireless device.

    Driver Issues

Examine the surface that the mouse is on to eliminate that as an issue. The MX500 is a great mouse. If the optical sensor passes over a crack in your mouse pad or some debris, it will cause it to jerk. Also, check the optical part of the mouse and clean it with a cotton swab. This eliminates...

    Cpu

Ignore the System Idle Process. That process is there to show how much CPU time is available. Look for what comes beneath it that is using a majority of your CPU cycles. You should be able to find one program that is jumping from say 2% to say 95% and then back to 2%. In your attachment, you...

Do you start new year with same $$$ amount as prior year?

I sweep all of my accounts either at the end of the month or 2x required margin. I only keep in there what is required for margin. I never keep more money than I have to have at any clearing firm or broker. I'm fortunate enough that in my career as a trader, I have never had to deposit any...

    Cpu

The pic you provide is not very helpful. What you should do instead is click on the Processes tab on the top and then click on the column that says CPU on it. Click on that column again to sort from high to low. The process that should be on top is System Idle Process. Wait for a bit and the...

    Dual Monitors and a laptop

Sorry about that. I meant to fix that post but it was past the 60 min limit. I meant 2 monitors without a problem. I haven't plugged in monitors to both ports in the back to see if it can handle three monitors (the notebook's LCD + 2 others - one for each port). It works fine like most other...

    Dual Monitors and a laptop

Works fine on my ATI Radeon 64MB card that comes standard with the Inspiron 9300. The trouble he is having is with a laptop-based GeForce with 256MB. I still think his best option is to downgrade to the ATI Radeon to save a good chunk of money and, possibly, to resolve his problem. This is not...

    Dual Monitors and a laptop

Just so you know, you don't need more than 64MB unless you need to do some gaming or 3D graphics with it. For trading, the ATI Radeon 64MB does the job with 3 monitors just fine. You might want to return it and get that version and get a refund.

    Dual Monitors and a laptop

You DON'T want to use that one. You should only use it to connect to a TV or projector to view movies, DVD's etc. You should only be using the DVI and VGA ports (white and blue) ports. Is this how you had the monitors hooked up before? Have you followed my previous suggestion?

    Dual Monitors and a laptop

Strange.... my 9300 has a DVI, VGA and S-Video output. Which ones are you using? I'm a bit confused now. There should be a white port (DVI), Blue port (VGA) and a circular port (S-Video). On inspecting the image on the Dell website you provided, yours should be the same. The S-Video port...

    Dual Monitors and a laptop

Samson, How does that monitor perform on DVI with just DVI cable installed? Eliminate the VGA connection and just leave it so that it is on the DVI monitor only. Tell us what happens. Also, it is probably inconsequential, but have you checked to make sure you have the latest driver...

    Taking work along on vacation

Don't do it. You won't miss anything if you don't look. If you find yourself with sweaty palms and anxiety attacks because you are wondering about what the market has done, then you have other issues to contend with. I strongly suggest you close out any positions you think are weak and just...

    Dual Monitors and a laptop

Mak's suggestion was my next suggestions. I would switch the cables on the monitors and check to see what happens. If you have the same kind of problem, then you have eliminated the cables and monitors as the issue. I'm assuming you are not using any funny adaptors or KVM switches or anything...

    moving parts to new comp

If you are using the machine for trading, SATA won't give you much of an advantage at current prices. I would examine whether or not you really need to CD drives and go with a much cheaper IDE, if you still have the option. It sounds like you have already made up your mind though. :)

    moving parts to new comp

So you are saying that you have ONE IDE port with a cable that has 2 connectors and they are both being used by 2 CD Drives? Is this correct? If this is the case, then your solutions are either to buy a PCI IDE card or to go with SATA as you mentioned. No, you can't combine SATA and IDE...
