    INTc

The CC wasn't great. Most of the questions focused on the larger than expected inventory build/lower than expected (or perhaps hoped for) GM. Also, while they were positive on the second half, they weren't wildly so. And there was no indication that capex might grow beyond forecast, which could...

    The "Insurgence Solidarity March"

That would be a no lose trade. Funny how similar the idiocy from the brainless losers at that "march" is to much of what passes for discourse among the more politically confused ET'ers. In fact, I wonder if one or two of our misguided colleagues might have served there as featured speakers to...

DCX Calendar spread - IV Crush

Jack, that's one way to do it. Or you could just trade the front month with a short straddle/strangle or vertical ratio spread. Or, if you don't want to sit with the unlimited risk, a long butterfly/condor would also do the trick. Which one really depends on the specific situation and your...

DCX Calendar spread - IV Crush

Yea, I'd have to agree with GA. A long time spread with the back month IV in the middle of it's range, regardless of the size of the skew, is a bad play. I'd be much more inclined to go with a vega neg position on the front month.

Wee, I feel exactly the same way about Cottle (despite my playful response to Joey above). He has some good insights. But, by and large, I found the book rather muddled and largely useless.

You had trouble with Cottle only because your mind's been turned to mush by all those girlie books you read. . . . Homo.

Great point, Mav. Developing an approach with which you are comfortable and fits your particular trading personality is critical. Were it otherwise, the actual cost of tuition in the options markets wouldn't be so damn expensive.

That's a tough one. For the first few years I traded options I kept both as constant references. In fact, I still keep them handy. So I'd be hesitant to pick one over the other. However, Natenberg is more applicable to the style of trading that I have migrated towards. But what I typically...

As introductory treatises, I'd add McMillan's "Options as a Strategic Investment" and "McMillan on Options" to the list. However, to truly get to the Riskarb level, you'll need to do a lot more than simply read some books. Try trading various options strategies in the real world with real (big)...

    IPIX..anyone looking at this today

Yes, unbelievable move. If you want another microcap name in the security space that closely resembles the pre-explosion IPIX of two weeks ago in terms of float, market cap, short interest ratio, etc., check out IDN. It's up from under $4 a few weeks ago to $6. But if IPIX is any tell, there...

Clinton Administration vs. Bush Regime on Al Queda

I suggest you read a book called "Losing Bin Laden" in which, ironically enough, our hero Mr. Clarke comes across as a lone voice of caution on the building terrorist threat in an otherwise distracted and uncaring Clinton White House. Indeed, he was well known in DC circles for having been...

How do C students get into Harvard Business School?

B-school is easy. Law school is tough. Med school (though that one I don't know about first hand) is toughest of all. Thus, there's a clear inverse relationship between a grad school's level of difficulty and the degree's financial pay-off.

    Second War Has Begun

Surely you do not think the War on Terror is unwinnable and not worth fighting? ART, say it ain't so! Without hope there is only despair. But despite your understandable trepidation as we stand seemingly alone in the midst of chaos, we are and shall always be the Shining City on the Hill. And...

    Second War Has Begun

Waggie, I have two words in response: "Client state." Actually, I have two more: "Military governor." Or better yet: "Puppet government." The point is, we all know the Iraqis are not yet equiped to govern themselves and it very well could be years before they are. Heck, it took...

    Second War Has Begun

Thank you, hapaboy, for sharing some much needed insight to counterpose, and in my mind utterly silence, the cacophony of faux idealistic obtuseness from the prevailing talking heads (as well as a few misguided, though no doubt well-meaning, ET'ers). Unfortunately, I fear it will be completely...
