    Middle class revolt

Not really ..... many of the advances that we produced in our research group were balanced and came from members in the US and overseas. Many of the overseas people had and have no interest in coming to the US. The best employees we have had dont come from IIT but we have had people from IIT...

    housing crash

When I worked for the CEO of the largest Mortgage Lender in the US a few years back the average hold time of the average SFH was something like 7 years. More recently this number has decreased by a nontrivial amount. By the way, being the smart fellow that he is he has been readjusting the...

This is exactly the correct analysis: As someone else pointed out ... "Simple Labor arbitrage.." The US economy is changing: Like the horse and buggy, the card reader, etc etc. Business and labor specialities mature: we are now seeing that there are no "secrets" in engineering and science...

    Middle class revolt

Well, your experiences simply do not match mine. I have run scientific research and software engineering teams and in some of these cases we used "outsourced" labor. The people were hardly incompetent and were easily the equal of any US based scientist or engineer both in direct knowledge and...

How do you backup your system?

Hmm .... Linux and the associated backup tools included in major distributions are free ... no need to spend anything assuming you already have a realiable broadband connection ......

    Middle class revolt

Yeah, for some reason people in portland would rather work in a gas station than for Intel .... and a charging a premium to live in the least sunny major city in america is of course a great idea

Well actually I dont teach anymore and I own the building where we work so ... I would agree with your quote:D

    Middle class revolt

70.00 is probably beyond the means of the typical Wal Mart worker... a better target would be about 2.00. This also ensures that your product gets placement on the dollar aisle when it doesn't sell ......<g>

    Middle class revolt

As am I, a US educated and based scientist. One of my past colleagues that won the Nobel prize probably would not agree with your stance on Russian scientists ....

Who buys your products then if only low wage service jobs are available ?

    Middle class revolt

Of course it is a factor .... Having taught at a couple of universities I know the score. Many of the students that came through my doors had little time to study after working their 40 hour low paying jobs because they had no other alternative. Some of them made it, a lot of them did not and...

    Middle class revolt

Well .... if you need to stoop to girls gone wild to start a business you are probably looking at market niche saturation. How many porn vendors can the world accommodate ? And, is this really how you want your society structured ? There really is a path for going to school, getting a job...

It is: how many gifts are there relative to the labor demand picture over the next 15 years ? Perhaps you should set up a scholarship fund ? My company did. When will yours ?

    Middle class revolt

Sounds like you are assuming that most people that go to college have a 2K bill: that is not the case. Yes living costs would be incurred anyway - who pays for them unless the students work ? Where will they work to get those living expenses and still have time to study - unless they choose some...

    Middle class revolt

Dont know and this has nothing to do with my position. I said change policy. I do not agree with your position that we should outlaw foreign manufactuing or assembly. Why do you think that such a move would be a good idea ?

    Middle class revolt

Exactly. Middle class people really dont complain much: that is the problem. A few law and policy changes could easily end the outsourcing fad. Companies would still make large profits: perhaps even larger if their buyers have more disposable income derived directly attributable from their jobs...

    Middle class revolt

Yes. So, 24K for tuition only - no books, computers, housing, food. Ever try to work 40 hours a week and get all your studying in for something like engineering, or pre-med, or science ? I did it: a lot of people didn't make it and not because they were dumb. What we will soon see in the US...

    Middle class revolt

Gee.. I went to a state school for undergraduate. I had to work my way through school and finance it: I came out with large debts (by my standards and relative to what I could make in a job with an undergraduate degree). No way its "almost free". Its more like "almost indentured servitude"...

Has anyone gone to Trader's Expo?

Well .. I was trying to be a bit more diplomatic in my original response but .. well ... these last few posts are perhaps more focused on the facts ....
