How long did you take to make money

It took me more than 10 years to stop programming, to stop using oscillators and indicators, to mostly use naked chart and fundamentals and eventually being profitable. I trade anything taxed as 1256 in the US (short term profits are less taxed), like futures and indices. Nothing exciting...

is scalping spy weekly option possible?

I think the only way of being profitable with weekly options and to avoid huge risks is: - Directional only - Buy on low volatility - Buy before a large move happens - Nothing systematic (not every Wednesday or similar) - If profitable, I sell before the last 2 days Day trading is...

    Any Day Trading Advice/Books/etc?

I like "Winning the day trading game", by Thomas L. Busby. And my favorite day trading books are "Live the dream by profitably day trading stock futures" (1995) by Gary Smith and his last one "How I trade for a living" (1999). Even if this one is not 100% day trading, it is one of the best...

    Broker and trading station

Thank you all very much for your suggestions. I will actually keep Tradestation for charting, research and even (one) automated strategy, and use E-Futures https://www.e-futures.com/ with cannon trading. I have much better commissions and fees than advertised on the e-futures website. I use...

    Broker and trading station

Multicharts does not offer any range charts, price or tick based. The closest "range chart" may be kagi or renko. They offer tick by tick time based charts. Anyway, thank you Mark.

    Broker and trading station

Hi guys, I am looking for a future broker with these specs: - US based - Server-side bracket orders (like DMA for futures, no smart routing) - Low margin requirement for intra-day trading - Reasonably priced for their services - LLC and partnership accounts - Phone app, just to cancel orders...

LLC Traders - electing out of centralized audit regime?

Like you, I think the 37% tax rate could be easily challenged. The biggest risk that I can see (if any) regarding my partnership tax return could be the business tax status: Even if I am really confident about it, this is apparently an IRS classic. So, with the new audit rule, no need for...

LLC Traders - electing out of centralized audit regime?

I didn't elect out. If my LLC could be audited more frequently (that remains to be seen), the partners should not be audited (all of their taxes) for one possible partnership mistake. That way, the potential audits stay at my LLC level. This is a family partnership: It is also why I made that...

Can anyone recommend an accountant for an active trader (without TTS)?

Since the past 2 years, I use the services of www.protradertax.com for my LLC (trader in securities and commodity futures), and my contact is Al Davidson, CPA. Pro Trader Tax, LLC Tel: 303-638-3400 During tax season, of course he can be very busy. Service is as (good as I) expected.

https://www.elitetrader.com/et/threads/option-trader-tax-status.304156/#post-4356011 As a Future trader (only futures), you just need your brokers 1099-B for tax purpose. In a company, you should add a justification of any special accounting policy that you could use. You obviously need to keep...

    Unusual large spread

Since Monday, I don't see any unusual large spreads, except when there is a really big order which is expected. My guess is 1 day before to 1 day after Fed minutes, these larger spreads on the last trading day happen.

    Broker for My Scalping Strategy

If you don't use a lot of margin (like PMA with Interactive Brokers), you can find a broker with a flat commission. Since you use limit orders, your shouldn't have a big surprise regarding execution. I think Tradestation has a $5 flat fee for stock trading, like Fidelity and others...

    Non-pro vs Professional data fees

Before I setup my LLC in the US, like your LTD, I had the same thoughts and I even found one US Broker who would classify my company as a non-professional for data, which is wrong. I agree with Robert regarding the NYSE questionnaire. Fortunately for me, because of my trading style (number of...

    Unusual large spread

Yes, they are directional trades. It is profitable when you trade in the same direction than the SPX and when there is a big move. The strategy is not about using options, it is about being right in the right direction when SPX moves a lot. I use options because I want to have a real stop (when...
