    Toughest trade in the world: S & P 500?

Does the S n P future track the underlying stocks or do the underlying stocks track the S n P. I think you'll find it is varying degrees of both. Hence when the S n P is manipulated by big S n P traders they are moving the underlying stocks also. Where are the worst traders? Well of...

    Toughest trade in the world: S & P 500?

Just to give you people some context, I'm a filter trader. I use first alert (Neovest). I've been extremely consistent as a day trader trading primarily NYSE but more recently I've been trading some volatile NAZ stocks like RIMM and TASR. If I examine my P n L what I find is the...

    Toughest trade in the world: S & P 500?

Maybe you missed my point. Yes the trend is your friend. But it is my experience that the s n p rarely trends cleanly on an intraday basis. So if you want to trade the trend, which every trader should in my opinion, and you are a day trader, trade something that trends well. Don't trade the...

    Series 7 Exam

Hey, I took mine not long ago and what I suggest is getting an exam simulation study course (on software). It simulates the exam environment (the test is taken on computer so you should practice and learn on the computer) I found it allot more usefull than the texts. The questions in the...

What is a good percentage annual return for a day trader?

Well I trade at a prop firm and so do my mentors/colleagues. We generally keep about 10G (25G max) in our accounts and can leverage it 10 to 1 intraday. Now most of the boys are going to earn six figures this year. So right away you are talking about 1000% in 1 year. And this hasn't...

Cutting losses - not the best idea

...vote of approval. I generally understand your approach to investing because I've got my level II CFA and studied business also. But frankly, when it comes to trading stocks I've found that on balance, fundamental analysis has cost me cash. Hence I've discarded it all together. Fundamental...

Cutting losses - not the best idea

You don't eliminate your non-systematic risk (alpha) through 14 way diversification...you reduce it. And what about your beta risk, how do you manage that. Recorded earnings are accurate sometimes, and other times not. But what people are willing to pay for them (the multiple) is very much...

Cutting losses - not the best idea

I will only add that there are three ways that I'm aware of to control risk. 1) use a stop loss 2) implement a hedge 3) Diversify heavily. Mr. Market....I hope you are hip to one of these. :D

Cutting losses - not the best idea

"I suspect he controls his risk by the proper selection of stocks." The 'proper' selection of stocks is not a comprehesive risk control strategy. I'm not asking how he gets into a stock. I could care less, everyone has their own means of deterning an entry. I'm asking how he gets out...

Cutting losses - not the best idea

Mr Market The most critical aspect of any trading or investment strategy is money management and risk control. This is trading 101. If you don't control your risk it is only a matter of time before they carry you away. I don' t care if you win 99 times in a row, it only takes one rogue...

    Commission based on Volume

I pay 0.015. And you? I find that biases me marginally to the long side... The short setup has to be nice for me to go short...but I usually find cause at least twice a day.

    Commission based on Volume

I don't know anyone getting anything less than 0.004. A fellow I know gets 0.004 but he does 1 million shares a day! Remember though that if you post bids and offers on Arca or Island and they get hit you actually make 0.002 per share. Some Nasdaq traders make a living earning these ECN...

    Commission based on Volume

Oh, also I trade remote from home so I have not desk fee. But anyone with a series 7 at a prop firm doing 50k a day is getting 0.005 or less...no doubt about that. The sterling Echo pro software which awesome is $350 a month. But for every 100K you get back 100 bucks.... so do 400K and the...

    Commission based on Volume

your math is incorrect....on 10,000K the difference is 25 bucks a day. $500 a month, $6000.00 a year, not small change. And yes I pay for the software. But once I get up to 20,000 shares the software will be free. And yes I get 100% payout... and yes Echo is a great firm.

    Commission based on Volume

My mentor is at Echo also and does about 1 to 1.3 million a month...he recently negotiated 0.0045(actually they just offered the rate without him having to ask, Echo is a great firm by the way). Pretty darn good if you ask me. A 1 tick trade is actually profitable trade at that rate...

Was the offer they made to you (at 0.005) based on you doing an expected amount of volume or where there no volume assumsions factored in.
