Most of my trades are placed without looking at a chart. I've developed a trading system that I apply to about 60 small cap stocks and trade them intraday. Tradestation generates b/s orders and I place them or sometimes let it place them automatically.

Agree with you. Based on reading in other BBs, it seems some traders ignore "black swans" type risk.
Not just the occasional market event, but events in placing trades such as loss of internet connections, somebody hitting a telephone pole, failure of their computer with a big position and...
I did an interesting test today to see if Jack's Jokari window would test out as a system. My interest in this came about after I finished a section of Journal I where Spyder and Trend Fader got into a discussion over whether volume had any predictive value. It's on page 138.
So to see if...
I do recall that post on the Monday after Thanksgiving from my reading and in part that triggered my question re. today being slow. I think on Monday, I'll be in the "cheap seats" just watching the market and not trading the JH stocks.
You mentioned FORD and JMDT's action today. I did not...
IN the spreadsheet I posted earlier, I list the truerange/close for all the stocks in my JH universe. This varies from a low of 0.62% to a high of 2.1%, a large spread.

This is a technique I use in my other trading. It tries to compensate various system parametres based on their relative volatility to the entire universe. For my universe of about 60 stocks, I calculate the average and then adjust each stock based on its relative volatility.
I define...
My JH trading day:
Closed RATE for a small gain
Closed half of my PTC for a 5% gain, and the remaining open position showed a nice gain during the day
Bought NGPS and closed it for a 2% loss.
Doug
Today, Friday, my activity:
Entered NGPS and exited at EOD as it did not reach FRV for a wash trade.
Still holding CMCO, PTC, and RATE. All had gains during the day.
Sold half the CMCO for a 5% gain.
Doug
G87,
Thank you.
I don't know why most everyone else got out of TIE with the 2% stop but I didn't. I was using a stop a little higher than 2% as described earlier and maybe that was why.
Doug
Thursday entries: TIE CMCO RATE
Closed GMXR for a very nice gain (it reached PV on Weds, so I closed it about 15 minutes after the open.)
Closed TIE for a wash.
Holding PTC, CMCO, and RATE.
Friday list: KNDL, LIFC, NGPS

marty-I think Spyder commented on this too. I've been trading for most of my income for over 10 years and believe me, I learned the hard way to leave hope and prayer out of it.
If you get taken out by your stop, accept it and move on. I believe a good trade is one where you follow your...
RE: 2% stop
I'll give you my take on this.
In my other trading I trade about 60 small cap stocks. One of the things I do is look at the relative volatility of the universe and adjust certain parameters based on that.
For my Jack H universe, I get a overall volatility of 1.276 defined...
