    Nassim Taleb: "Who got burried?"

I was excited to start reading that book but one chapter in I just couldn't read it anymore. His style of writing is off-putting.

Is Interactive Brokers selling Timber Hill?

I haven't had any problems with customer service with IB for at least a couple of years now. The people I have interacted with are knowledgeable and have shown patience in how they have dealt with me. I've had a few bad experiences in the past, but they've mostly been positive.

    Password managers?

Considering that it is free and open source, maybe try it first and then if it does not meet your needs, upgrade.

    Password managers?

I keep my master database file on Dropbox. You can access Dropbox from any device. At least for Android, there are KeePass apps. I use Keepass2Android. https://keepass2android.codeplex.com/

Creating Algo for MORE Intraday Trades

I think Python is as good as any language to start with. Each language has its own quirks. I personally do not use Python, but have used it before and it is fine. Plus, if the OP learns Python, he can transfer that skill set to something like Quantopian. (Or if he chooses C#, QuantConnect).

Creating Algo for MORE Intraday Trades

Just bite the bullet and learn some Python. That way you can customize the way you want, you will learn a useful programming language, and you will broaden your horizons.

    IB and IEX Discretionary Pegs

Searched for "peg" in that rule book and came up with this section: Rule 11.190. Orders and Modifiers (b) Order Parameters (10) Discretionary Peg Order (C) Is not eligible for routing pursuant to IEX Rule 11.230(b) and (c)(2).

    IB and IEX Discretionary Pegs

From here: https://www.iextrading.com/trading/alerts/2014/022/ Discretionary Peg™ Orders are not eligible for routing, and execute at IEX only. This is not mentioned on the official DPeg page though.

    Spoofing

Do they mention how many "trade modification" messages HFTs send in a day? Didn't think so.

    IB and IEX Discretionary Pegs

Yes, this is a question I have as well. From IB's tiered commission structure, it seems to imply that IEX will route orders to other exchanges with a small fee tacked on. Makes me think that the D-Peg order might route out to other exchanges.

    First World Problems

If you really can double your money in a year, why don't you open a margin account at a brokerage of your choosing and save money over the year and keep adding to the brokerage account. Don't ever withdraw money from it until you are forced to, to pay your gigantic tax bill in a few years. Once...

    Stupid wash sale question

Maybe you can trade a pair of ETFs all year except December. And then find substitutes for those ETFs in December that would not be considered substantially identical. Then start trading the original ETFs in January. Then you will avoid the wash sale problem.

    Stupid wash sale question

So the short side will always be a loss and the long side a profit? Why not just go long then? What I'm saying is that in general you won't know which side (long or short) will be the winner so hopefully they sort of average out. And if you have a positive expectancy strategy, then maybe you...

    Stupid wash sale question

It is not clearly defined: http://fairmark.com/traders/defined.htm If you do not qualify for trader tax status, you can take a month off in December or January to reset your wash sales. Or if you are making a profit on your trades in general, you can hope that most of your wash sales take care...

has anyone factored in exposure fee when filing taxes.. the obnoxious fee which IB charges

Do you qualify as a "trader" in terms of IRS law? If so, you can include it as a business expense. If you don't, it is possible it might be classified as interest expense which would not give you full benefit. I am just guessing and am not a tax expert.

    Non-display fees

By the way, doesn't this put QuantConnect and Quantopian out of business overnight?
  20. S

    Non-display fees

Yes, the NYSE can never stop people from circumventing their arbitrary fee. Yours is just one example of a perfectly legal method to circumvent it.
