    Let's talk routing...

Sorry I am ignorant on this point. If I route to IEX through IB, does it use IEX's smart routing technology? If not, what is the point of routing to IEX through IB?

I really like golang. If it had a native decimal type, it would be even more convenient for writing financial applications.

    IRS Trader Status

The problem is that this area of the tax code is so specialized that probably 10% of professionals understand the nuances.

    IRS Trader Status

Or you can take the time to understand the relevant tax code and not have to deal with so-called "professionals" who are sometimes worse than nothing at all.

    IRS Trader Status

This is just terrible advice if you are trading securities actively and have high expenses. You'll be losing out on thousands of dollars per year.

    IRS Trader Status

What is the rationale behind 1.? That doesn't seem to make logical sense to me. If I work 8 hours a day on programming an automated trading system that made many trades a day, surely I would be considered a trader in terms of the IRS.

Bitcoin exchange processor likely to fight IRS summons

Yep, I totally get it. If it were me I would end up writing a computer program to track all my bitcoin transactions and automatically spit out a tax form. But that's just because I'm anal about that type of thing.

IBB stop limit orders not followed outside of trading hours?

Okay, well maybe I don't know what I'm talking about. However, when I set up a STP order and then go into modify the order ticket, the "Allow this order to be triggered or filled outside of regular trading hours" checkbox is disabled. If I change the order type to a STP LMT, those two checkboxes...

Bitcoin exchange processor likely to fight IRS summons

So basically you are rolling the dice and hoping the IRS doesn't inspect your bitcoin or altcoin activities. That is a viable strategy, but it is not how I choose to run my finances. The problem with bitcoin (in terms of taxes), is that it is not easy to keep track of all your transactions properly.

IBB stop limit orders not followed outside of trading hours?

I think you can do stop-limit orders outside regular hours. There just has to be a limit associated with the stop. You can't just have a regular stop (that converts into a market order) for pre and post-market.

Bitcoin exchange processor likely to fight IRS summons

Not to be a complete dick, but these are the kind of details you need to think about before using bitcoin (how it is going to affect your tax reporting). Hopefully, your buys/sells resulted in a trivial profit/loss that would be overlooked by the IRS.

IBB stop limit orders not followed outside of trading hours?

Do you mean your order was active during pre-market trading (i.e., before 9:30am EST)? I think IB prohibits any market orders (including stops without limits) during pre and post-market trading because of liquidity concerns.

Interactive Brokers just removed $100,000+ from my account

There is no one close to IB in terms of its total package. I would not be nearly as profitable a trader if IB were not in the picture and that is just a 100% fact. I do agree that they can do better though.

Supreme Court Rules On Insider Trading For First Time In 20 Years: Why It Matters

Here is a counterargument. As a trader, it seems like you would want more insider trading because then chart/tape reading becomes more informative.

Binary options - any pros at all?

I have never traded binary options but here is my advice: Stay far far away. Consider getting a brain surgeon to cut out any brain matter devoted to binary options so that it won't be a problem for you in the future.

Stop Orders: Creating Liquidity Against Yourself?!

Maybe you should never liquidate your position. Then you can sleep better at night and you won't ever have to "create liquidity against your own position."
