    IB TWS layout nightmare

I'm running TWS Build 944.3c and I turned off the "Check for TWS Updates" from the Windows startup programs. I have not been auto-updated. Maybe reinstall your old TWS version and make sure that "Check for TWS Updates" program never runs.

List of stocks that issue K-1s

You could probably get a large percentage of them by looking at these two websites: https://www.taxpackagesupport.com/ https://www.partnerdatalink.com/ I cannot find a comprehensive list. Maybe you should start one?

IB - auto liquidate part of positions outside RTH even that would cause an increase in margin?

It was my understanding that IB would never auto-liquidate something outside of normal market hours for that security. It would be good to know this for sure though.

    Please recommend a broker

All the SEC has done for me in my trading career (20+ years now) is to restrict my financial freedom. As far as I can tell, they will bend over backwards to restrict some capability of an individual and then declare they are "protecting" them. It's complete crap. I would be far better off...

A Bitcoin Transaction Takes Thousands of Times More Energy Than a Credit Card Swipe

Bitcoin certainly has first-mover advantage. And because of that, most of the application work being done in this space is based on bitcoin. It seems like it will be hard to unseat it, but anything can happen. Suppose bitcoin wins the cryptocurrency war, does that necessarily mean it will be...

    Question about IB forex leverage

I think recently Interactive Brokers was forced to eliminate leveraged forex trading (i.e., forex on margin) due to regulatory bodies wanting to "protect" the retail trader (i.e., limit their freedom). As long as you don't use any leverage, I think you can trade forex at IB still. Of course, I...

One of the World's Most Successful Hedge Funds is Facing an Employee Rebellion Over Donald Trump

Good idea. Yes, I suggest you reread it and give it a rest.

One of the World's Most Successful Hedge Funds is Facing an Employee Rebellion Over Donald Trump

Just because he has a beef with the investment banking industry, doesn't mean he is wrong. Have you even read any of his books? Apparently you are in favor of protecting corporate interests (apparently because you own a business), while letting individuals hang out to dry.

One of the World's Most Successful Hedge Funds is Facing an Employee Rebellion Over Donald Trump

I'm pretty sure the author of that article is Michael Lewis. The one who wrote: Liar's Poker The New New Thing The Big Short Flash Boys He writes about technical subjects and he does a pretty good job covering them.

One of the World's Most Successful Hedge Funds is Facing an Employee Rebellion Over Donald Trump

In a technical case like this, I would trust the judgement of people in the industry, rather than a jury assembled from the public.

One of the World's Most Successful Hedge Funds is Facing an Employee Rebellion Over Donald Trump

Yes, we all know that real juries are infallible.

One of the World's Most Successful Hedge Funds is Facing an Employee Rebellion Over Donald Trump

Reread the article again. It clearly states that the coder did not take anything proprietary in nature. In fact, the mock jury was incredulous that the guy did not take any of the code dealing with trading strategies. The whole case against this guy makes a mockery of our judicial system. But...

Professional or Non-Professional Subscriber for Exchange Data Fees

Not sure, but it seems like it comes down to how the brokerage account is opened. If you open it in your personal name, then you are a non-professional. If you open it in a corporate name, you are a professional. However, if you incorporate (not in your own name), then obviously you can't trade...

Professional or Non-Professional Subscriber for Exchange Data Fees

Note that Tim Smith has me on ignore so he won't see this post. Here is the case you are ignoring though: it is possible for an individual to open an account under their own personal name and use their own social security number and then later be treated by the IRS as a sole proprietor in terms...

Professional or Non-Professional Subscriber for Exchange Data Fees

It seems like the OP would pay the non-professional fee at CME. However, the NYSE, AMEX, and NASDAQ agreements are worded differently and that is what the OP was originally referring to.

Professional or Non-Professional Subscriber for Exchange Data Fees

But this isn't an IRS issue. His question comes down to how the exchanges interpret an individual who incorporates under his or her own name (whether they are non-professional or professional). You should tell him to contact the exchanges directly and ask the question. However, since the...

Professional or Non-Professional Subscriber for Exchange Data Fees

Totally a guess, but it seems like if you go through any "incorporation" process, then you are creating an entity which would be viewed as qualification for the "professional" fee rate. But you can see by the many posts I've made that there could be arguably different interpretations. And...

Professional or Non-Professional Subscriber for Exchange Data Fees

They won't know because this isn't an IRS issue. It is an exchange fee issue.

Professional or Non-Professional Subscriber for Exchange Data Fees

I realize that the scenario I painted is very unlikely. However, the only reason I bring this up is that the same individual could have "trader status" one year according to the IRS and then the next year they might not (maybe their trading strategy changed during the year and their frequency of...
