Managing Premarket when it opens at 4:00AM but brokers open at 8:00AM or so

Most of the time, the liquidity will be so limited at 4:00AM EST that it won't even matter. I.e., you won't be able to manage the position at that time of day even if you wanted to. I know that IB allows orders at 4:00AM EST for the few ECNs that are open then.

Mark all your securities except the one you want liquidated first as "liquidate last"?

This is how bad the IB Margin calculator and Support are

I do not trade options, but in equities there is always a defined threshold in what constitutes a "bustable" transaction. You need to read up on the exchange rules to figure out why this transaction was even allowed to be busted. And in the future, when you receive a really nice fill, you can't...

can i trust lightspeed with my money?

I find it hard to believe that a trader would avoid blowing up if a 0.2% move in the wrong direction would wipe him out.

IB - 4/1/17 TWS update, tips and tricks (column issue solved)

I just updated my TWS from some 94x version to the latest offline version. Ticker Action is one of the options under Global Configuration --> Trading Tools --> Quote Monitor --> Default Layout, Market Data Columns tab under the Financial Instrument Description category. I was able to move it...

can i trust lightspeed with my money?

You put up 200k and they gave you potential access to 100 million dollars? Wouldn't that be 500-1 leverage? I understand why that prop firm went out of business.

What is going to happen to the price of bitcoin if the float increases

Gold has inherent physical properties that make it a medium of exchange. There is a reason why most people on the planet agree that gold is a desirable material. Bitcoin shares some properties with gold, but you can't find bitcoin on the periodic table.

    Insider trading hurts only HFT

Right, so you are stating that HFTs work in liquid books. Whoopy-dee-doo. Liquidity and depth of market has vanished since HFTs came along (comparatively). I've been trading for 20+ years and I've adjusted to the HFT world, but don't make out HFTs as a god-send (because they aren't).

Disabled clients lost $500K in TD Ameritrade chatroom: filing

I'm pretty sure I would have stopped before I was 500k in the hole. Does being physically disabled give you a free pass for being stupid? The title of the article should be "stupid people gamble their life savings away."

    Insider trading hurts only HFT

You have no clue. Maybe if you want to buy or sell 100 shares of a stock, then HFTs are awesome. 200 shares? Maybe. 1,000 shares? Nah. HFT gives an illusion of tighter spreads but it is complete bullsh*t.

Net Neutrality is good for Day Traders

Ajit Pai can go f*ck himself. FCC asks for comments on net neutrality (a subject which has already been decided), and then he ignores public comments and does whatever the f*ck he wants. He needs to be fired and then publicly shamed somehow. Government for the people - what a joke.

If you bought Bitcoin on Friday, you have lost almost 28%

Central bankers hate gold, or they pretend it doesn't exist. If you don't have any gold in your portfolio, you have no regard for the lessons of history.

Then keep some of your money in a fiat currency for its easy transactional value. Keep the rest in gold and sell some gold when you need more fiat.

If you bought Bitcoin on Friday, you have lost almost 28%

Right, so if you had to choose one thing to store your monetary value in, what would it be? The choice is obviously gold for me.

If you bought Bitcoin on Friday, you have lost almost 28%

I am not sure if you are living on planet Earth, but gold is used as a currency. Gold has physical properties that make it an accepted store of value. Please read a history book. It is possible bitcoin may become dominant, but there is no way it can ever overcome physics.

They both have desirable physical properties, especially gold. Where is bitcoin on the periodic table?

If you bought Bitcoin on Friday, you have lost almost 28%

You can use Coinbase's trading exchange (GDAX) to eliminate the premium of buying (and selling) bitcoin. The two are tightly integrated.

    Fidelity is mining Bitcoin

You should be comparing total market cap. Bitcoin's total market cap (# of coins in existence * price) is nowhere near gold's total market cap (# of ounces of gold above ground * price). That is how some bitcoin analysts justify target prices > $100,000 a coin (to close the market cap gap).

Why are market spreads so wide in extended trading session?

There is no literature or study that I know of. There is nothing stopping you from trying to be a market maker in extended hours trading. However, if you have a very large bid/ask spread, then most likely you will only get filled when there is news that goes against you. Otherwise, no one will...

C++ price type to properly deal with rounding error?

If it were me, I would use C# (or F#) over C++ in this situation just because the .NET languages have a built in "decimal" type (and that is what you need). It will make your life easier. You should be searching for a language that makes your life easier, especially in the prototyping stage...
