IB Great at catching erroneous trades

This probably means the place where it got executed contacted IB about the erroneous trade first. You should probably be thanking the exchange. Contrary to the previous poster, it seems like busting procedures should be in place at all exchanges. They protect people from losing all their...

    IB Suggestions & Improvements

Maybe you could try using the API to bring up a ticker for each symbol that you are interested in. If you get an error on starting the ticker, then you know that symbol isn't tradable via the TWS. Then you can eliminate it from your list. You could automate this.

Typing Error Causes $3.5 Billion Trade for Company valued at $93 Million

How do we know a dialog box didn't pop up saying "Are you really really sure you want to sell 610,000 shares for 1 yen each!?!?!?!?!?!?!?" -- push YES or NO. And the trader said, "What the hell is this crap - of course I want to do the trade!" (YES) I suppose a well designed system would...

Should IB program a non-Java TWS?

You can port it so that it doesn't rely on Windows. You just need to mimic the socket send/replies in your code with your own socket code. You can port it to whatever language you want as long as you get the socket calls right. I've ported it to C++ with WinSock (instead of the Afx stuff in...

    Busted trade? Why?

Nah. If they got their acts together they wouldn't be able to suck up to the big guys and screw the little guys.

    Busted trade? Why?

ARCA is a little more fair in that 15% off (or $2) is the bustable window. However, they have busted trades on me that are less than 15% off and less than $2 off. So basically ARCA has the final say - the clearly erroneous policy is only a guideline. INET's 3% off rule is just way too...

    Busted trade? Why?

Yes, this kind of crap is unacceptable. On earnings announcements, it seems like INET should relax its busting policies but they don't - they go by the book. I got a nice fill on HD on an earnings report once that got busted several hours later by INET. I was the first fill after the earnings...

    Busted trade? Why?

If you decide to close out the bustable position and then INET comes back with a bust ruling later on, then you are stuck with your actions. You can't unroll the other side because later you found out that the other side was busted. So you are left short/long the stock in this case. If you...

    OSTK ceo

The reason that I am not worried about naked shorting is that the companies getting heavily shorted are ones that aren't good companies to being with. For example, I predict OSTK eventually goes bankrupt and goes to $0. If there were people heavily short (or illegally short) a stock *and*...

    Busted trade? Why?

INET normally reports busts at around 10:30am EST. For a $30 stock, the busting window is 3% off. So since you bought more than 3% off the previous close, you should have waited until 10:30am EST at the earliest to close the position. I have had trades busted days late by INET. The...

    IB is down?

Yes I noticed this yesterday as well. When IB says "Monday, October 10th" is the upgrade date, and then earlier TWS versions stop working on October 5th, it might be annoying to customers. Maybe next time, IB should double check their calendar.

Tax problem with daytrading futures in Roth IRA?

What does "invest in an entity" mean? Suppose I am a systems trader and I am trading my Roth IRA and a margin account using similar signals. I derive trading profits from the margin account and it is classified as a self proprietor business (so a business in my name). There is no "salary"...
